Is it me, or did this show have one of the shortest runs in off net syndication. I'm trying to find out what local stations aired this show and the only two that I found are WNEW 5 in New York and WSMW 27 in Worcester, MA. At least it was on weekday mornings on NBC for a short while. Come to think of it, I don't think this show has been on for a steady period of time.

I think I read somewhere that the only channels it was ever on after it went off network tv was the channels you mentioned & one in DC & one in Seattle. Why it was never really in syndication I'll never know. After it went off network tv, I never saw it again until TVLAND brought it back. I remember the AM re-runs. They were shown in the summer of 77 after Freddie died at 12 noon on NBC...

I have a friend who said he read somewhere that there was a clause in a contract stipulating that the show not be broadcast for 25 yrs. I dont know where he got this info....but I will try to find out. At any rate, that is exactly what happened and he told me this many years ago. I will never forget him telling me I wouldnt see Chico for another 25 yrs and then one day I turned on TVLand and there he was. When I calculated the dates, it gave me a chill.

Wow, that's strange. I wonder why they wouldn't allow it to be shown for 25 yrs. They didn't do that with other shows. One of James Komacks other shows WELCOME BACK KOTTER used to come on in syndication here back in the 80's sometime I think it was. I don't think that one was in syndication much either...

I did see Chico but, it was on the spanish stations. I stared at that TV trying to swallow as much of the program as I possibly could because I missed the show. As for the english stations I had never seen Chico and the Man run until TVLand ran it and "BOY" was I happy! I told everybody.............

Hey JennyLee...I saw it on a spanosh channel too...about 5 years ago or so.
Maybe the length in time was something legal due to the fact that Maria had a court order against anyone using Freddie's name or likeness. There are statutes of limitations on everything. Maybe the statute ran out. That's the only reason I can think of. It's like the documents from the Warren Commision (a.k.a. the Kennedy conspiracy)...those are sealed in Washington D.C. until the year 2035...or something like that, until they are made public record. I feel the 25 years had something to do with Maria's court order tho. |

That reminds me, I remember Chico & The Man being on WTVE 51 (former Telemundo station) from Reading, PA a few years back. I think it was on Friday's at 6pm or so. Never watched it though.

I believe it was shown on WWOR in the early '90s. This was on the syndicated feed sent across the country, not locally in New York.

I think it may in some areas. Maybe someone else knows more than I do. They used to show some old shows on there...

The cable feed or Eastern Microwave (EMI) feed of WWOR was terminated on December 31, 1996. That feed of WWOR was just like TV Land having old shows that aren't on any other channel to replace high rated first run syndicated shows. However, it wasn't exactly done perfectly. I remember about ten years ago, at 6pm I think, Married... With Children was on the OTA WWOR from NY and Gimme a Break was on the EMI feed. I remember it would show the first second or two of the opening credits of Married... With Children (the sky shot of the car driving by) and immediately cut to Gimme a Break. But, WWOR is still on some cable systems that aren't in the New York area. I know cable companies in Wildwood, NJ and New Haven, CT carry WWOR.
