If you were a child of the 80's you probably looked forward to getting up early Saturday morning to see your favorite cartoons despite your parents telling you and your siblings to sleep in on Saturdays. But when you get the general picture Saturday morning cartoons were mainly invented to keep the kids busy while mom and dad drank their coffee and you and your siblings could easily eat breakfast while watching the latest episode of Silverhawks in the 80's. Because Saturday mornings were a treat for kids to see their cartoons and made Saturdays special. But I think when NBC got rid of Saturday Morning cartoons it marked a trend that other networks would begin doing in the foreseeable future. Because when NBC replaced those cartoons by debuting a Saturday edition of Today and focused on the new TNBC lineup for teens one could guess that other networks would follow suit later on. Even with NBC no longer having cartoons ABC and CBS were the king and crown prince of Saturday Morning cartoons and continued to be number one and two in cartoons when FOX became number three in cartoons. And FOX really took the glory away from ABC and CBS in the 90's because they had cartoons like Eek The Cat Bobby's World Life With Louie and Marvel cartoons such as X-Men The Incredible Hulk Iron Man and Silver Surfer but once Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted FOX focused more on live-action shows than cartoons but I think when they got the 4Kids TV block FOX got ruined in their cartoon department. But what caused the death of Saturday Morning cartoons was the fact that they wanted to focus on educational programming and most kids had to sleep in so they could do chores. ABC was the first to focus on educational programming by replacing the ABC Weekend Special with Science Court and other shows because they saw this as a huge moneymaker. But with streaming TV becoming popular it is very doubtful that Saturday morning cartoons will make a comeback
