Does anyone here remember or know about the early 1980s period where a then-unusually high number of new sitcoms failed to become hits and were quickly canceled? Nowadays, shows come and go all the time, but when there were three networks, people took notice. What was the problem?

Writers strike was one the other was nobody wanting to give these shows a chance.
