Default Clampett Family Relationships

Did Paul Henning ever explain why the show had Jed as a widower, and Jethro as a cousin of Elly May rather than as a brother?
And what was Granny's married name, and did she have other children besides Jed's late wife? Her maiden name was Moses.
In Season 1 Jed tells Jethro to put down "your Granny." But in fact Granny wasn't related to Jethro. And he used to call Jed "uncle Jed" even though they were actually cousins since Pearl was a first cousin of Jed. Jed wasn't Jethro's uncle.
Finally, was there ever information about other family members, other Clampetts, etc.?

in a season 1 episode Granny & Jed talk about Jeds wife (and Grannys daughter) Rose Ellen in one scene. And in one scene in the season 1 Christmas episode Jed says something about-I think-his grandfather.

As far as I know Paul Henning never said why he did that with Jethro & Elly.

Also you're not the first one to be confused about the Clampett family tree; others have too-including me!

Cool

Granny's full name was Daisy Moses.

I just saw the episode with Dr. Twombley asking Jethro about his relationship with ",your grandmother." The writers could not have forgotten that Granny was not his grandmother, or any other direct relative.
Also, Moses sounds like it was Granny's MAIDEN name, although she refers to herself as Daisy Moses..If she is "a Moses" that we would seem like her maiden name.

Does she ever mention her husband or his last name? Is it possible that Jethro's father a Bodine was a son of Granny by a first husband?, Therefore she would have been Jethro's grandmother?
I guess Pearl's father was a brother to Jed's father.

Wink

Could it be that Pearl was not only Jed's cousin but actually the widow of Granny's late son which is WHY he called Jed 'Uncle Jed' and said several times that Granny was his actual grandmother? Maybe Granny was married twice- first to a Mr. Bodine then to Mr. Moses [and they never said what the late Rose Ellen Clampett's maiden name was so she could have been Jed's father's full or half-sister] . Multiple pairings between two families were hardly unheard of in 'the hills'. As Dolly Parton put it re Smokey Mountain hillbillies 'who ISN'T related'? LOL

I think I read somewhere once that Paul Henning purposely made the Clampett family tree confusing.
