100 Reasons Why "The Simpsons" SHOULD Cancel - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Are you like me wishing "The Simpsons" to end? Well...with the death of Marcia Wallace (which came 15 years after Phil Hartman's death) I wonder if anyone can give me 100 reasons why "The Simpsons" should cancel. I'll get the ball rollin'...

1-Death of Marcia Wallace and Phil Hartman...they brought many recognizeable characters, but without them the show may or may not go well.

2-Repeated Episodes...There high similarities between "Bart vs. Australia" and "Blame it on Lisa".

3-Price Tag...Sure, this show is a Cash Cow, but the show is starting to get expensive!

they should have stopped it back i the late 90's, they have long since run out of good ideas.

4. The need to make room for brand-new animated shows... Once a long-running scripted show ends as a first-run show, it usually means creating, building and pushing some newer or completely new scripted shows in its place.

5. The show's cast and crew... They need to move on to other projects, especially at the ages the voice cast is at (50 to 70). One of the main voice cast died while "The Simpsons" is still a first run series... That would not be a risk worth taking.

6. The "Floating Timeline"... A character stays the same age indefinitely, especially to the point of becoming "non-existent" or not being born yet at the time of his original introduction. Not a good thing. In any show it would be better if the children and characters did get older, with the children being in their 30s by now (and Lisa would be married).

Highly agree with #6...In one episode where Lisa sees her future, it's 2015 and It's almost two years from 2015 and Lisa Simpson is STILL a whiny 8/9-year-old! Also, there was an episode where Homer Simpson was in a Barbershop Quartet called "The Be Sharps" and 10 years later...Homer is a young adult and in a Grunge Band!

That's ridiculous! The Logical World of Disney makes more sense than "The Simpsons" now! (Disney Logic is a reference that uses something nonsencical, like Donald Duck never wears pants yet puts a towel around his waist after taking a shower or bath...or if Donald Duck isn't wearing clothes, he covers his Naughty Bits...yet NEVER wears pants)!

Back to "The Simpsons"...

7-Animation Domination...In the 90's, there were other Prime-Time Animated Shows like "Fish Police", "Capitol Critters", and "Family Dog"...they all sucked. But then came "The Critic", "Dilbert", and the 1st Run of "Futurama" and "Family Guy" which got bombarded under "The Simpsons".

8. NFL Football overruns: Anytime there is an NFL Football game on FOX in the late afternoon, The Simpsons always has to have its 18-49 demo and viewership spike up to over the 3s and 6+ millions, and in other times, their rating would be in the low-mid 2s and less than/around 5 million

Thats one thing thats bothered me about The Simpsons, consistency. Like mentioned above, Homer is in The B-Sharps, then he's in a grunge band. Homer had no hair in 1990, yet when they flash back to 1990, he has hair. I think it was the one with the creator of Family Guy was in it.

^^Nah, I'd rather have 30 seasons of CSI: Las Vegas, or 20 seasons of Big Bang theory.

Number of shows that came and went during its original run: During The Simpsons's original run, around 20 long-running live action shows came and went, such as Beverly Hills 90210, The X-Files, That '70s Show, 24, and House, M.D. Even King of the Hill and MADtv came and went, also. Hundreds more long-running scripted shows on other networks came and went as well, i.e. Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, NYPD Blue, Friends, Will & Grace, 30 Rock, and The Office.

In the 90's, "The Simpsons" had a lot of controversey when it came out. From Bart Simpson's "Underacheiver...and proud of it, Man" to George Bush Sr. saying that families sould be "...more like the Waltons and less like The Simpsons". Bart added this..."Yeah, the Waltons were praying for an end of The Depression too".

I was one of the children who couldn't watch "The Simpsons"...now almost most kids watch "The Simpsons"!

11. Lack of Ongoing Story Arcs: Usually in a TV series, there are multiple ongoing episode-to-episode story arcs that can begin and end at anytime throughout its original tenure. If that TV series announces it is ending for good, then usually all those story arcs/storylines are closed. For a program that has a tenure this long (26 seasons), The Simpsons consists entirely of standalone episodes with no ongoing story arcs, and it is unknown how closure can be provided when its original tenure ends.

12. People born after The Simpsons's 1889-90 premiere have already reached or are reaching adulthood. Or in some other cases, people born after The Simpsons's 1989-90 premiere not even living to see adulthood, dying of accidents, cancer, etc..

13. Failing to find the perfect number to end its original run on: Is it stated that the so-called "Golden Age" of The Simpsons ended around Season 10 or the year 2000. A film came out in 2007 and after 20 years, the series remains popular. Now in its 25th season, The Simpsons's viewership remains high for FOX, having around 5 to 6 million viewers. But it is true that no scripted TV show's original first-run tenure truly lasts forever. After this season, the gap between The Simpsons and the next-longest-running active scripted TV series on broadcast television will potentially get huge than it already is. The Simpsons's first-run tenure should be finished with the 26th season, and it shouldn't be renewed after that. Too much of one scripted TV series is not much of a good thing while there are several others out there. At least there are enough installments to keep The Simpsons running in syndication for a long time.

I was thinking too that maybe the movie should have been in 1997 then in 2007. It seemed like The Simpsons were hotter in 97 than in 07.
