Sad My Drying Machine Currently Isn't Functioning

The electricity for my drying machine downstairs blew out when my dad was using the stove. Somehow, we were able to get all of the electrical appliances running again after having to shut off the fuse box except the drying machine. It should be noted that we had during the same period, at least three different fans running. I should add that after about two tries with the fuse box, the microwave machines turned back on (I had to reset the clocks though).

Sorry to hear that your dryer is no longer working. I hope you can get it fixed.

Years ago during a storm the power went out and it blew a computer we had. I use surge protectors, but I can't recall if the computer was plugged into a cheap surge protector or if it was just the force of the lightening that ruined it.

Dryer problems suck. I've been having my own dryer problems for many months now. It takes forever for the dryer to dry things. Sometimes I'll have to restart it three or four times just to get my clothes dry. It's annoying. Anyway, I hope you can get it working again.

Our dryer konked out on us a month ago. It was over 10 years old. So a couple of weeks ago we decided to just check out the prices of dryers. We went to Lowes and they had a dryer that was on their clearance isle. It was a $800 Whirlpool and Lowes dropped the price to $396. We asked what was wrong with it and they said it had no feet but otherwise it was in perfect condition. We ended it buying it. When the installers came they said the feet were there just pushed up farther so no one could see them. The delivery guy said we got a smoking deal.

Ack! About a month back, my neighborhood ended up falling victim to an utility company power outage. It affected my house, as well as a few others. We did get power back, but the power in one part of the house didn't come back on... it was really weird. All the outlets on one side of the same room worked, but if you plugged something in another outlet on the other side of the room, you didn't get any power from it. The company did come out and replaced their master fuses, and we finally got power back in the entire house. It was so weird! That's what your dryer machine issue made me think of. I hope it's just a blown-out fuse! (even though you already checked it out, heh) In the meantime, you can hang clothes to dry, assuming you have enough rod space to do so. I know it takes longer, I just wanted to throw the suggestion out there.

As I type this, my father is at Sears observing dryers. I feel really terrible and guilty because he immediately blamed me for having the dryer on while he was cooking.

This is an extreme longshot, but anytime you have an appliance or device with electronic controls, it's worth a try to unplug it. Then wait a minute and plug it back in. Doing that I guess makes a break in the circuit and resets the controls.

With my old TV, I had to do that about 2 or 3 times a year when it "locked up" and wouldn't turn off (or change channels). Even with my current TV, I once for the life of me couldn't get it to pick up a local channel when I ran its auto scan. After a quick unplug, just like new.

Anyway, remember that these things tend to be built to become obsolete -- they just aren't made to last indefinitely anymore. I had a dehumidifier that hardly lasted a season and a half. Sometimes it's no one's fault but the manufacturer!!

Very true. Most of us can remember things our parents had or we had - a tv, fridge, microwave, etc, that lasted 20+ years. Those were the days. Our stackable washer and dryer just bit the dust. We bought it in 1999. It cost us $100 to find out that it couldn't be saved as the motor blew out. It seemed so strange having it taken out. It looked almost showroom floor perfect. It's only my husband and I, and it was kept in a closet, so it was treated well, so to speak. Top-of-the-line, full-capacity Maytag. In the good old days, it would have lasted 20 years, not just 12.
