Default Roseanne inconsistencies

Was this show pretty good at being consistent? I realize there are many shows where we can rip and shred them apart regarding how inconsistent they are, but what abt Roseanne? While watching the show today and seeing Jackie talking to Roseanne abt going out to a single's dance with Nancy and needing to buy a dress, it dawned on me that later on Jackie mentions singles dances and Nancy made a joke abt she assumed they went together as a couple. I wonder if the writers had kept that in mind when writing the scripts.

The only ones that come to mind are:

David in one episode is a character Steve (not playing another character the same character Marks little brother), but later on I think they try to make a small joke to cover it up but it doesn't really work out cause Davids mother calls him David.
I think the joke went something along the lines of Darlene and David were fighting and Roseanne says something to Dan like David isn't even his real name. If Darlene only called that him cause she had such a hold on him and controlled him like Roseanne was trying to make it sound then why would everyone including his mother call him David and not by his real name?

Actually, his name in that episode was Kevin. It was later changed to David.

The "Direct to Video" episode from season 8 featured a pregnant Roseanne but aired after she had given birth. And on that same note we were told throughout the 7th season that they were having a girl but obvioulsy when she gave birth it was a boy.

DJ's room had a door that kept switching walls.

In late season 4 we learn Roseanne and Jackie had a bad childhood. But in season 1 where their father vists there are no hints of that.

How come we never saw 'The Lunchbox' in season 9?

The episodes were aired out of order.

I think this show was fairly consisten. And I think one reason we didn't see much of The Lunchbox in the last season was because they had won the lottery - even in the series finale, they turned it over completely to Nancy and Leon.

That Direct to Video episode was very odd to watch in the middle of the season, already a few episodes after Roseanne had given birth. I didn't understand why they aired that one out of order.

When we first heard/seen Arnie, we were told he was a friend of Dan's.
Remember when Arnie came over to play poker and Roseanne got all giddy when he kissed her?

Later, it came to be the girls (Roseanne, Jackie, Bonnie, etc.) had gone to school with him and he was to be avoided at all costs! Which is why they got upset when Jackie had slept with him on that drunken night.

Arnie was probably the most inconsistent character in this whole show-LOL. He could have still been a friend of Dan's, though, and went to school with both him and Roseanne. But, it seems like he grew into a huge pig by the time of his final episodes, whereas in his first episodes, he was just one of Dan's buddies.

True. He could have been one of those guys that Dan liked but the ladies disliked. Rightly so. I am in the minority by saying I loved the Arnie character. I guess the fact that he was not stable, he was a weirdo at times and crazy, made me think of a few cuckoos that I have known in my life because they were my brother's friend or my former husband's friend. The kind you don't want to be left alone with for a long period of time.

It was obvious from watching the show you can easily see the jitters and how hyper Tom was from doing cocaine. I can't help but remember a Howard Stern interview where Roseanne appeared and Tom was on the phone. Tom apologized to Roseanne and seemed to be sincere. Roseanne was still on the whole "child abuse" kick and accusing people of stuff that to this day I don't know if it is true or not. I felt like Roseanne was mentally not all there, since she said she was bipolar. By this time Tom had cleaned up and he was being careful not to be mean when asked questions by Howard abt Roseanne. Tom admitted to doing certain things and I think that was good enough. I just think you have this bipolar woman and this guy who was doing drugs, they both just should not have been married, at least not in those conditions.

I liked Arnie in the earlier episodes, but he just got on my nerves towards the end. I think when he was abducted by aliens, it all went downhill-LOL

Yeah, Roseanne and Tom were just not meant to be. I think Tom is what brought out the bad in Roseanne. I feel sorry for her first husband, Bill Pentland, who she actually left for Tom. From what I've seen and heard, he looks to be a nice guy that got shafted by Roseanne - but what man wasn't, seriously.

And Roseanne definitely had her bad times. You could tell it showed up in front of the camera, too, especially in those middle seasons when Roseanne was just getting off her divorce. I think now, though, she's really rebounded, and she's a whole different person than she was back in the 90's, which is great to see!

Oh yeah, that's a good one. That showed they were definitely airing the episodes way out of order. For 2 or 3 episodes, her hair would be short, then it would go back to being long, then it would be short again. I never understand why networks air episodes of a show out of order. Wouldn't it just be easier to air episodes in order?-LOL

When Roseanne brings up her upcoming breast reduction surgery, Darlene says, ""I think that we should talk about this."
This was totally out of character for Darlene. One would expect a sarcastic remark or a crude breast joke, but not the touchy-feely, "I think that we should talk about this."
I guess they just did this to set up the joke about, "These (boobs) weren't you're concern since you went to solid foods."

God. Color me naive. And here I thought that he was just trying to play the character that way to be quirky! I wasn't a fan of that character and thought that the alien abduction thing mentioned below was the perfect way to get rid of Arnie.

I'm not sure if I ever believed Roseanne when it came to her multiple personalities and child abuse, either. I suspect that she wanted to sell a book that she'd had written with Tom Arnold at one time and needed to generate publicity. Aw, well. She was still a groundbreaking comedienne and opened doors for women everywhere.
