FINAL Nielsen ratings for the 2006-07 TV season

The 2006-07 season came to a merciful end last Wednesday. After the last season finale signed off for the night, all the important numbers were totalled and calculated and both FOX and ABC came away winners. ABC ended up with an impressive 6 series in the top 10, while FOX grabbed the season's #1 show in "American Idol". How did your favourite series do? Not good news for sitcom fans. Only 3 placed in the Top 40 and only 8 new ones are planned for the fall among the Big 4 networks. The 5th, the CW network, created some excitement last fall as they prepared for their first season, but, in the end, they fared no better than UPN and WB before the big merger. Their top program "America's Next Top Model" came in at a whopping 113th. Remind me again why this was such a good idea. (Poor Veronica Mars! Do you see now why it was cancelled? I'll miss her. She was hot!)

Overall, I look at the chart this way:

I love the NHL. But it was getting about as many viewers as Mama's Family reruns get on Ion. When they switched to the Preakness pre-show, the ratings jumped 5x.

I'd make the same decision they made, EVERY time.
