CBS shows NCIS: New Orleans, The Unicorn, The Neighborhood, Bull and Magnum P.I. set tentative production start dates

NCIS: New Orleans is hoping to start production on Season 7 on Sept. 23. The Unicorn is eyeing Oct. 12 to begin work on Season 2. The Neighborhood has scheduled its first table read of Season 3 on Sept. 16. Bull and Magnum P.I. have scheduled production return dates of Sept. 25 and Sept. 14, respectively. But as Deadline warns: "All these time frames are fluid and subject to change amid the pandemic."

A Disqus commenter who I am not sure is reliable said because of an NFL game being postponed to tonight at 7PM, the One Day at a Time CBS premiere is postponed a week, and Big Brother will air right after the game at 10PM. If that is correct it means Manhunt: Deadly Games will be preempted as well. Is that true? I have not seen news about it on TV sites or CBS' own Facebook page.

My guide has updated with football now listed at 7:00. 10:00 is not updated yet though, still has Manhunt and not Big Brother.

CBS announced season premiere dates for nine returning scripted shows, plus the series premiere of B Positive. Several other premiere dates are still TBA.

CBS sets premiere date for MacGyver, Magnum P.I and Blue Bloods

Season 5 of MacGyver, Season 3 of Magnum P.I. and Season 11 of Blue Bloods will all premiere on the same night: Friday, Dec. 4. That leaves only two fall shows without premiere dates: Evil and the Queen Latifah-led Equalizer reboot, which recently began shooting.

That's too bad. I was hoping that the number of unproduced episodes from the shows' previous season orders would get combined with their current season's orders (whether their current seasons will be full or abbreviated), and air them with few or no repeats, but nope. Nightmare-Virus-related safety protocols have increased per-episode costs too much, so networks are now going with the "Last Resort" option (16-episode seasons). This is exactly why I fear a pandemic of a different disease with circumstances similar to COVID-19 in the future, and the associated protocols and guidelines.

On the other hand, if all those CBS procedural shows were to start doing 16 to 18 episodes permanently, at least their writers aren't as likely to struggle to come-up with ideas for fresh episodes and story arcs.
