Sanford and Son - The Complete Series DVD Review - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

S-A-N-F-O-R-D-period. And period is important in The Complete Series of Sanford and Son, a definitive 17 disc collection containing all 136 episodes of what could be considered the funniest sitcoms of all-time. Redd Foxx stars as Fred Sanford, an over-the-hill and borderline senile junk dealer living in Watts. His son, Lamont (Demond Wilson) is always trying to keep Fred’s head on straight and run a successful business, but somehow Fred always gets his way and screws it up for everybody. Other characters come and go, such as Fred’s friend Grady, Lamont’s friend Rollo, and holier-than-thou (or at least she tries to make it seem that way) Aunt Esther.

The series ran for six seasons on NBC from 1972 until 1977 and was a success with the critics and the audiences alike. It was intended to be NBC’s version of All in the Family, although it was produced by the same production company. The series was based upon a British sitcom called Steptoe and Son.

Such a shame there's not ONE extra here. No interviews, retrospectives or even a commentary?? What a shame that such a hilarious series got the shaft.

Its kinda hard to get Demond Wilson to talk about his [I]Sanford and Son[I] period. I guess because he is a minister now.

ET did interview him in 2001 in one of their "Whatever Happened To..." weekend show. He went into a lot of details about his relationship with Redd Foxx and some funny things that happened on the set, etc.

Just picked up the complete set today at Best Buy for $49. I'll be having a mini-Sanford marathon this weekend. LOL

LOL! I still love "Coffins For Sale" where Lamont buys 2 coffins and Fred refuses to sleep in the house because he's so superstitious.

The scene in the Mexican restaurant may be the single funniest scene I've ever seen. Every time I see it, I just howl!

Even hearing/reading the word "flapple" is enough to send me into fits of giggles.
