I remember watching All In the Family as a kid in the 70s. I'm not as familiar with "Archie Bunker's Place," but didn't it lose the edge that All In the Family had. In the episodes that I have seen, I don't remember the plots being very good, and it seemed like Archie's personality really mellowed. Am I remembering correctly?

Yes you are. He began to mellow as the 80's began to hit. Times were changing too so that explains his change as well.
