Who says sisters are supposed to get along? That is not always the case with two very different sisters, Holly (AMANDA BYNES) and Valerie (JENNIE GARTH). The premise of the series is that Val's 16-year-old sister Holly moves in with her when their dad goes overseas. The series centers on the two sisters and the hilarious situations they get themselves in to. Also in the series is Holly's best friend Gary (WESLEY JONATHAN) and Val's boyfriend, Jeff (SIMON REX). The series is finally on DVD for the first time in the Complete First Season from Warner Home Video!

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Memorable episodes include "Pilot" in which Holly moves in with Val. "Roommates" in which Val cooks up a "roommate chart". "Cool Older Sister" is the on in which Holly takes off for an overnight party. "Copy That" in which Jeff's how-to's on handling guys teach Holly how to make a fool out of herself. "Girls' Night Out" is the one in which Holly and Val have a night out on the town. "Valentine's Day" is the one in which Gary brings Holly along for moral support on a date. "Holly's First Job" is the one in which Jeff hires Holly. Finally, "The Talk" in which Val finds Holly in her bedroom with Henry and decides it is time for a little talk.

Notable guest stars include Peter Scolari, Tony Hawk, JC Chasez, Abigail Breslin, Penn Badgley, Ian Ziering, Jenna Fischer, Kyle Howard, Doug Sheehan, Rebecca Gayheart, Dan Cortese, Leslie Grossman, Cameron Mathison, Michael McMillian and more.

The set is very slim in design and is also a slip sleeve set. There are two slim cases that hold the three discs. The main cover art features Amanda Bynes and it's actually a pretty good cover art design, as in Amanda is front and center but there's a blue shaded picture of Jennie and Amanda together. The set colors are blue and pink with yellow border.

The cases themselves follow the same design as a lot of Warner sets do now. The first case has the same cover art picture and the back of the first case lists the episodes on Disc 1, while Case 2 lists the episodes on Disc 2 (on the front cover) and Disc 3 (on the back cover). I'm not crazy about the design but I suppose it works.

As for the discs, each disc is pink in color. Disc 1 features Amanda Bynes and contains episodes 1-8. Disc 2 features Jennie Garth and contains episodes 9-15. Disc 3 features all four cast members and episodes 16-22.

Menu Design and Navigation:

The menu itself features the entire cast, with some rock/pop music looping in the background. It is very basic and features the "Play" (all) option as well as the "Episodes" selection, which takes you to a sub-menu that lists the episodes.

Video and Audio Quality:

Well, the series isn't that old so the color is really good, as is the audio. There is some minor grain, which is usually the case in any release, actually...nothing to be too concerned with. Episodes are closed-captioned and offer French subtitles. Some interesting news when scouring the web, I found out there is some music replacement. The theme song is still there but the music is replaced. Strange. In addition, some transition music has been changed as well. What is even more interesting is that this isn't listed on the box. Chapter skips are available.

Special Features:

Well, at least Warner gave us ONE bonus feature!

- Gag Reel (12:08)
A funny highlight of clips, obviously. Not much can be said about it but I'm glad it's included. These are always fun!

Final Comments:

I do like Jennie Garth and Amanda Bynes. It is a fun show, truly a sitcom and I always felt it got a bit of a bad rap. Granted, I didn't watch much of the last two seasons or so, but I really enjoyed the first season a ton and I'm glad it's on DVD. It was nice of Warner to actually include a bonus feature. The music changes are a bit puzzling but overall, a good solid set and I definitely recommend it.

Video Quality: 4.5/5
Audio Quality: 4.5/5

Overall: 4/5
