The Ben Stiller Show ran from September 1992 until January 1993 on FOX.
Talented young Ben Stiller, son of well-known comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, was the host, producer, director, and one of the writers of this inventive comedy series that may have been a little too ofbeat to attract a large audience.
The focus of each episode was a collection of short comedic films. TV series perodies were prime fodder for the show-Melrose Heights 902102402( Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place); COPS in Salem, Massachusetts ( witch hunters), and in ancient Egypt;Studs ( with shy conservative Amish participents); Information 411 ( Rescue 911), Low Budget Tales Of Cliched Horror; and Tonight Show replacement host auditions. Other recurring features were spoofs of commercials and rock groups, Ben's Video Diary chronicling "major" events in his life and John O'Donahue's cop stories.
Along with Ben, the rest of the regular's included Andy Dick, Jeanine Garofalo, Bob Odenkirk, and John F. O'Donahue. Guest stars included Roseanne and Tom Arnold, Gary Shandling, Bobcat Goldthwait, James Doohan, Run DMC, Todd Bridges, Susan Anton, Danny Bonaduce, and Rip Taylor.
The series was produced by cable television giant HBO.
