(see this users gallery) Husbands, Wives & Lovers aired from March until June 1978 on CBS.
One format that has rarely worked in television, despite numerous attempts, has been the hour-long situation comedy. This one followed the lives of five couples, all friends, who lived in the San Fernando Valley suburbs outside of Los Angeles. Murray Zuckerman ( Stephen Pearlman)was a traveling salesman for a pharmaceutical firm and spent much of his time out of town which didn't sit well with his wife Paula ( Cynthia Harris); Harry Bellini ( Eddie Barth)was a rough-hewn self-taught garbage truck tycoon with a young, naiive second wife named Joy ( Lynne Marie Stewart); Lennie ( Mark Lenow) was Harry's younger brother who was living with Rita DeLatarre ( Randee Heller), with whom he ran a stylish jean boutique; Ron Willis ( Ron Rifkin) was a dentist who had an amicable relationship with his wife Helene ( Jesse Welles), from whom he was separated; and Dixon Carter Fielding ( Charles Siebert) was Ron's best friend, a corporate attorney who was also representing Helene in the separation proceedings. Carter's wife, Courtney ( Claudette Nevins), was a spendthrift who managed to go through even more money than his substantial income provided.
The series was created by comedienne Joan Rivers.
