Well GOLLY! Another season of mishaps, mistakes and most importantly: laughs. Jim Nabors stars as the hapless good-guy Gomer Pyle in this hit spin-off of "The Andy Griffith Show." The complete second season release contains all 30 episodes remastered from the second season and restored for your viewing pleasure.

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Memorable first season episodes include "Third Finger, Left Loaf" in which best man Gomer loses the wedding ring and fears it's buried inside one of the 600 loaves of bread. "The Blind Date' in which Gomer's date thinks he is a millionaire, thanks to Carter. "A Visit from Cousin Goober" is the one in which Goober pays a surprise visit and then slips into uniform. "Gomer Minds His Sergeant's Car" in which Carter's car is stolen and wrecked -- on Gomer's watch. "Grandma Pyle, Fortune Teller" in which Gomer's fortune-telling grandma predicts Carter's future. "Gomer and the Phone Company" in which Gomer tries to give back $40 that fell out of a pay phone and gets arrested. "Opie Joins the Marines" is the one in which Opie Taylor runs away from Mayberry to join the Marines. "Gomer, The Would Be Hero" in which Carter lets Gomer take credit for a heroic act so his girlfriend won't discover he'd been cheating on her.

Notable guest stars the first season include Jack Larson, John Napier, Ted Bessell, Dabbs Greer, George Lindsey, Forrest Compton, Parley Baer, Ron Howard, Andy Griffith, and more!

The set itself is in Paramount's new style of snap cases (just picture a larger DVD case that your typical movie comes in). On the front is a color photo of Gomer and Carter, with the show's logo plastered on top. The back of the box is your typical back of the box and features some color photos as well as a description of the series.

Inside the set, the five discs are spread out by flipping through the case. Each disc is black in color and features no artwork.

Disc 1 contains episodes 1-6. Disc 2 contains episodes 7-12. Disc 3 contains episodes 13-18. Disc 4 contains episodes 19-24. Disc 5 contains episodes 25-30.

Menu Design and Navigation:

The menu is completely different from Season 1's menu. The menu immediately pops up and features a shot of Carter and Gomer (each menu has a different photo), with a large clipboard next to them and the episodes listed on the clipboard. When you select an episode, it is as you are checking off and item on a list...very simple. There is a "Play All" option as well, of course.

Video and Audio Quality:

Once again, the video quality is very good for a show over 40 years old ... and it is now in color! Hard to believe but it's true! The audio itself is also fine, so nothing to really be worried about. Chapter skips are available and it appears each episode runs uncut, averaging over 25 minutes per episode ... although Episode 5 on Disc 1, "Gomer Untrains a Dog" runs only 23:19. It is probably edited for sure. Some other ones are under 25 minutes, but they are all over 24, so maybe they just ran short originally. The back of the packaging says some music has been changed and some episodes have been edited from their original broadcast, so maybe those are edited.

Final Comments:

Wow ... what a difference a season makes! This release has ZERO bonus features. What a BUMMER. After the first season contained an amazing array of special features, we get nothing this time. What a shame. I also find it funny that last season was cheaper to purchase but this season it is nearly $50...although you can usually find it MUCH cheaper through or other outlets. Despite this, this is one of the funniest shows out there and vastly underplayed on television these days. GOLLY, go and pick this set up immediately just to continue your collection, otherwise this set has definitely down in quality from the first set.

Final Numbers (out of 5 stars - How our point system works)

Video Quality: 4.5/5
Audio Quality: 4.5/5
Special Features: 0/5
Menu Navigation/Design: 4.5/5
Overall: 4/5
