Fall in line!! Everyone fall in line to get the beloved "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." when it hits shelves on December 12th! Can I get a YES SIR! Yes SIR! This fantastic five disc set contains all 30 episodes of the rural smash hit starring Jim Nabors as the hapless Gomer Pyle, who spun off from "The Andy Griffith Show." The episodes are digitally remastered and feature an array of amazing bonus features, including commentary on select episodes as well as audio introductions by Jim Nabors on all 30 episodes!

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Memorable first season episodes include "Gomer Overcomes the Obstacle Course," "Guest in The Barracks," "Gomer Learns a Bully," "Gomer and The Dragon Lady," "Dance, Marine, Dance," "Daughter of the Sarge," "Double Date with the Sarge," and "Gomer Dates a Movie Star" plus many others!

Notable guest stars the first season include Wayne Rogers, Gavin MacLeod and Don Rickles.

The set itself has a nice color cover featuring a shot of Sgt. Carter shouting at an oblivious Gomer with a shot of the camp in the background and a nice blue skyline. The back of the set is decorated army style, along with three black and white photos from the first season. You can find a list of all of the bonus features as well as a fantastic description of the series.

The set itself is slip-sleeve cases. There are three individual cases that hold the five discs for the first season. There are two discs in the first two cases and one disc in the third case. The cases themselves have the same artwork on the cover as the main box does. The back of the cases are decorated in army print and feature a list of episodes along with descriptions, an original airdate and what disc they are on along with a black and white photo up top. Each disc itself doesn't feature any art, just a color scheme.

Disc 1 is blue and contains episodes 1-6. Disc 2 is red and contains episodes 7-12. Disc 3 is green in color and contains episodes 13-18. Disc 4 is navy blue in color and contains episodes 19-24. Disc 5 is Army brown in color and contains episodes 25-30. The bonus features are scattered over the five discs.

Menu Design and Navigation:

The menu is simple and starts off immediately with a list of the episodes. It features the Army print and then next to the list of episodes is the picture from the box art. The "Gomer Pyle, USMC" theme plays over the menu only once. There is a "Play All" option and the Bonus Feature for that disc is listed right under the episodes. When you select an episode to watch, it takes you to a sub-menu where you can hear Jim Nabors' brief audio introduction. You can then play the episode and if that episode has commentary, you can choose that in the same menu as well.

Video and Audio Quality:

The video quality is fantastic for a black and white show! It seems to be crystal clear for the most part, although there's always going to be a bit of dust and debris every now and then. The audio itself is loud and clear. It's obvious the episodes were remastered and in good condition, considering the show is about 41 years old from the premiere! Each episode is uncut (running 25 minutes in length) and has chapter skips.

NOTE: The episode run-times do NOT include the audio introduction by Jim Nabors (it's separated from the episode, anyway).

Final Comments:

Wow!! What a release if there ever was one! Any fan of Gomer Pyle or even Andy Griffith Show will be ecstatic by this! I know I am. I was never much into the rural sitcoms, but Gomer Pyle is just so dang funny, you can't help but enjoy it! For such a popular show you'd think it would get more play in reruns, especially on TV Land. But now you can watch the entire first season, remastered and with amazing bonus features! I don't even have to say this but I'm definitely encouraging you to go out and get this set. And major props to Jim Nabors for his dedication in this set!
