It’s time for more fun of our favorite girlfriends on the fourth season of the hit sitcom Girlfriends from CBS DVD! All four girls (Joan, Maya, Lynn and Toni) are all back for more sexiness, glamour and sophistication in this series that is a fan favorite. Los Angeles is sure lucky to have four sexy young and upcoming women. This year you’ll see Joan get a new assistant (Shawn Harrison), a Christmas party, and is Todd headed for New York? Find out on this fourth season DVD! Girlfriends stars Tracee Ellis Ross as Joan, Golden Brooks as Maya, Persia White as Lynn, Jill Marie Jones as Toni and Reggie Hayes as Williams.

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Some memorable episodes include the season premiere “Some Enchanted Evening,” Joan enjoys relative peace in her relationship with Ellis. Toni refuses to speak to Todd because she is up in arms about his debt and feels betrayed by the fact that he failed to disclose this information sooner in “If It’s Broke, Fix It.” Toni's brother Antoine comes to town for a weekend rendezvous with Maya, but soon spooks her by declaring his love and announcing that he will not return to Boston in “You Ain't Gotta Go Home but...You Know the Rest.” Maya learns that tuition has increased substantially and she doesn't have enough money to cover it in “Inherit the Lynn.” In “Don’t You Want My Baby,” Toni is furious to discover that Todd failed to deliver a message from a remorseful Greg before the wedding. In “Merry Ex-Mas,” Maya invites Darnell's girlfriend, Lena, to her Christmas party in an effort to be civil. A stranger stops Joan on the street and tells her, "You made the right decision," in “Prophet and Loss.” In “New York Bound,” Maya self-publishes her book, Oh, Hell Yes, and sells it on the streets, where it is a tremendous success. In the season finale, “New York Unbound,” Maya learns that the publisher wants to sanitize her book to make it more accessible to white readers.

Recurring stars this season include Shawn Harrison (Family Matters) as Peaches, Khalil Kain as Darnell Wilkes, Malik Yoba as Brock Harris, Saul Williams as Sivad, Tanner Scott Richards as Jabari Wilkes, Jason Pace as Dr. Todd Garrett, Keesha Sharp as Monica Charles Brooks, Adrian Lester as Ellis Carter, with Karen Austin as Sandy Bickle, and Ann-Marie Johnson as Sharon Upton Farley.

One time guest stars for this season include Darius McCrary, Dawnn Lewis, Sandra Bernhard, Richard Kind, CCH Pounder, Julie Hagerty, Beverly Johnson, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Cindy Williams, Jenifer Lewis, and Demond Wilson.

The main box is once again a snap case and features a picture of the four hot women in fashionable black clothes on the cover with a nice black color scheme. Wow Golden Brooks and Persia White are stunning women! The back of the box features a shot of the each of the girls once again in black clothing (different poses this time) as well as a description of the series. Inside the case are the discs of course, but inside the packaging panels we have disc-by-disc breakdowns, including episode titles, airdates and a brief episode description. The discs themselves are silver in color (very plain) and feature the show logo with episode titles on the bottom. Disc 1 contains Episodes 1-8. Disc 2 contains Episodes 9-16. Disc 3 contains Episodes 13-18. Finally, Disc 4 contains Episodes 17-24.

Menu Design and Navigation:

The menu is very nice. However, on disc one before you get to the Main Menu, you have an option to go watch Previews or go to the Main Menu. The previews are for Charmed, CSI, Everybody Hates Chris and Ghost Whisperer. The main menu has a shot of all four leading women in a LA downtown background and the cast photo is similar to the cover art. On the right side, there is a scrolling set of video clips in a reel type form, just like the last set. The theme song is playing in the background and it loops when finished. There is a "Play All" option, which plays all of the episodes and there is an "Episodes" section. The "Episodes" selection takes you to a sub-menu where you see a list of the episodes to choose. We also have “Set Up,” where we can choose either English 5.1 audio or English Stereo audio.

Video and Audio Quality:

The video is in widescreen, like it should be, and it probably has never looked better unless you watched it in HD. The audio is also perfect and sounds good. We get 6 chapter stops for each episode and each episodes is just around 21:00 minutes in length, so there is no need to make an episode runtime lists, because they are all within seconds of each other. 20:58-21:00 is the norm, but two episodes are 20:49 (Some Enchanted Evening and Good Catch or Bad Hop) and the season finale is in its original hour form clocking in a 42:41. As was the case with the other sets, there is a disclaimer on the back of the box saying, “Some episodes may be edited from original broadcast. Some music has been changed for this home entertainment version.” I have no idea what, though. I never really watched the show before I got the third season DVD. If you know, please post on our feedback link below. Reader Roddric Shropshire helped us on the third season DVD with music edits, so thanks to him.

Special Features:

Seasons 2 and 3 had extras, but we are back to none again like the first season DVD. We get nothing on this season 4 set. What a shame! Some interviews, bloopers or audio commentaries have got to be on this set.

Final Comments:

It has only been five months since the last set and CBS DVD is giving us season 4 on DVD already! The show just finished its eighth and final season on The CW, so we are about halfway done with this show on DVD. Four more seasons to go, with season five slated for late October, so we have only a three month wait! You can still watch the spin-off series The Game on The CW if you’re missing Girlfriends. Girlfriends can still be seen in syndication on BET and upcoming this fall on WE tv. I am not happy we had no special features on this set, CBS DVD really is cheap, but at least we are getting the episodes on DVD. I have never really actually watched the show before I got the last DVD. It is not that bad of a show. I still have not seen any episodes of the first two seasons, so I am a bit lost in some storylines, but I can pick-up quite easily on some other storylines. But anyway, go and pick-up the fourth season DVD because you’ll laugh, love, and cherish these girlfriend, like they do each other!

Final Numbers (out of 5 stars - How our point system works)

Video Quality: 5/5
Audio Quality: 4.5/5
Special Features: 3/5
Menu Navigation/Design: 4.5/5
Overall: 4/5
