Descriptions of Newly Announced Programs:

“Don’t Forget the Lyrics!”
“Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” is a musical game show that tests contestants’ knowledge of song lyrics from different genres, decades and artists. “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” is the ultimate rock star fantasy taking viewers on a dramatic, heart pounding, rollercoaster ride of music and edge-of-your seat entertainment. Mark McGrath, a member of the multi-platinum group, Sugar Ray, to host “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” where he brings ordinary people center stage for a chance to win a fortune – just by knowing the words to the biggest hit songs ever recorded. “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” first premiered on July 11, 2007 on FOX, as well as becoming an international phenomenon where contestants around the globe put their winnings on the line as they tried to not forget the lyrics.

“Burn Notice”Sexy smash hit “Burn Notice” stars Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a blacklisted spy who finds himself stranded in sun-soaked Miami. Also starring are hot undercover agent Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), beautiful ex-IRA operative and ex-girlfriend of Michael; Sam (Bruce Campbell), our favorite washed-up military intelligence muscle; and Michael’s mother (Emmy Award-winner Sharon Gless), who is one tough cookie herself. “ Burn Notice” was created, and is written and executive-produced by Matt Nix. Mikkel Bondesen also serves as executive producer. The series comes from Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment.

“Without a Trace”
“Without a Trace”: Investigating the aftermath of a murder means getting into the mind of the perpetrator, but when the victim unaccountably disappears, the job becomes much more challenging. It requires deconstructing the persona of the missing and reconstructing the unique, crucial components of their last known moments. That’s where the work of the brilliant, New York–based FBI Missing Persons Squad begins. From powerhouse executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer and created by Hank Steinberg (“61*”), “Without a Trace” provides a fascinating glimpse into this rarely seen arena: the search for people who vanish inexplicably. For authoritative agent Jack Malone (Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Anthony LaPaglia) and his driven colleagues, finding the missing depends as much on figuring out who they are as it does on determining where they are.

From Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with CBS Productions and Warner Bros. Television, “Without a Trace” stars Anthony LaPaglia, Poppy Montgomery, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Enrique Murciano, Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Close. The series is executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Hank Steinberg, Jan Nash, Greg Walker, Ed Redlich and David Amann.

“Monk”
Tony Shalhoub (“Big Night,” “Wings,” “Men in Black,” “Cars”) has earned three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and two SAG Awards for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. In the critically acclaimed original series “Monk,” Monk's psychological disorder costs him his position as a legendary homicide detective on the San Francisco Police force. Due to the tragic unsolved murder of his wife, Monk has developed an abnormal fear of germs, heights, crowds and virtually everything else, which provides an unusual challenge to solving crimes … not to mention his day-to-day existence.

Traylor Howard (“Two Guys and a Girl,” “Me, Myself and Irene”), Ted Levine (“Heat,” “Moby Dick”) and Jason Gray-Stanford (“Taken,” “A Beautiful Mind”) also star. “Monk” is executive produced by David Hoberman (“Raising Helen,” “Bringing Down the House,” “The Negotiator”), Andy Breckman (“Saturday Night Live,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Rat Race”), Tony Shalhoub, Randy Zisk (“House,” “Without a Trace’) and Tom Scharpling ("The Best Show on WFMU"). “Monk” is from NBC Universal Cable Studios in association with Mandeville Films, Inc. and ABC Studios.

I believe it doesn't. It doesn't make any sense to me! Couldn't they put Smackdown on the Fox Sports Network? It would make a nice fit, while ESPN has a much larger audience but not sure if Smackdown would be appropriate for the long time sports network. Fox Sports has regional networks across the United States and they would decide if they want to carry it. Wait a second, how about USA Network, WWE's longtime wrestling home. I didn't think about this until now. SyFy and WWE? Odd partnering.

The only reason wrestling is on Syfy is because of WWE's good relationship with NBC Universal. The WWE has aired wrestling programming on Syfy since 2006 and it has done pretty well for the network.

ESPN did air pro wrestling (the American Wrestling Association, World Class Championship Wrestling, and Global Wrestling Federation) back in its embryonic stages. However, I kind of figure that pro wrestling is something that doesn't really factor in ESPN's current agenda (being that at the time, since they were still growing and lacked credibility/clout, they needed as much programming as possible)

FSN previously aired TNA's Impact before that show moved to Spike. But what's not to say that there would be a concrete, consistent timeslot and promotion on a regional sports network like FSN? From what I could tell, the ratings for the FSN version of Impact were pretty underwhelming.

As for USA, they in all likelihood, don't two major wrestling shows on their schedule at the same time (out of fear of them diluting each other).

Professional wrestling is a bit of an old whore in broadcast television, for at one time or another, it has had relations with every current broadcaster, excepting FOX and PBS.

Back in the late forties and early fifties, professional wrestling had shows across all four broadcasters at the time (ABC, CBS, NBC, DuMont), and disappeared from network television when DuMont ended national network operations in 1955.

For 30 years, professional wrestling survived in local and syndicated airings until NBC brought wrestling back to network television in the mid-eighties as 'Saturday Night's Main Event', and then it jumped over to cable before UPN picked up the 'WWE Smackdown' series.

When 'WWE Smackdown' moves over to SyFy in the fall, it's only broadcast presence will be the occasional 'WWE' specials or 'Saturday Night's Main Event' bouts that NBC picks up for broadcast.

Still haven't received any numbers from the network yet. They started their new season a few weeks late, and there's a two-week delay with the syndie Nielsen roll-up, but some data should be coming soon.

I'll post when I get some numbers.

Arrow January 2011: A New Year on MyNetworkTV

MyNetworkTV has released their full January sked, and the network is making no mid-season changes, sticking with their fall line-up. Although my affiliate tracking indicates the network numbers are down about 15%, most of this year-over-year erosion is due to the loss of 'WWE Friday Night Smackdown' to SyFy.

Viewers of the programming service will have some original programming on Tuesday nights which features back-to-back episodes of 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?' from 8-9 pm followed by two new episodes of 'Don't Forget the Lyrics' from 9-10 pm. For the month of January, MyNetworkTV has a week themed around pregnant moms-to-be and family nights.

For those of you who are looking to catch up on favourite episodes of classic series 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent', 'Burn Notice', 'Without a Trace' or 'Monk', here's the MyNetworkTV episodes skedded throughout the month of January 2010:

MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 2011
