Unhappy Laurie Metcalf & Her 'Roseanne' Co-Star Husband Are Divorcing

Laurie Metcalf -- who played Jackie, Roseanne's sister on "Roseanne" -- is about to have her marriage cancelled, because her husband has filed for divorce.

Matt Roth -- an actor who played Laurie's abusive boyfriend on "Roseanne" -- filed papers citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple married in 2005, but were together for a lot longer. They have 3 minor children -- Will, 17, Donovan, 11, and Mae, 6.

According to legal docs obtained by TMZ, the date of separation is November 26, 2008.

Matt is asking for joint legal and physical custody and is asking the judge to block Laurie from asking for spousal support.

This is Metcalf's second marriage.

Unhappy

You know, I didn't even know "Jackie" and "Fisher" were married in real life until a few weeks ago!! Now they're splitting up - how sad.

How is it sad? As long they are divorced and happy then it is all good so I am guessing if somebody is in a abusive marriage and they are divorcing because of abuse, are you going to say how sad?

I always feel sad for the children. Personally, my nephew had a very hard time dealing with his parents divorce. Maybe Laurie's children will do better though.

I didn't know that they were married either. That was a great storyline. I'm sorry to hear the marriage didn't work out. Best of luck to both of them and their children.

I am sure they will get over it, I doubt they will have a very hard time dealing with their parents' divorce when they are 80

Personally I find it sad anytime a marriage ends. It's sad they couldn't work out their differences. And it's particularly sad when there are children involved. Unlike you I don't believe the children will "get over it". This will be difficult for them and they will likely carry around emotional baggage from this for a long time.

The children will get over the divorce if the father or mother are abusing them and would be happy too

I knew for a couple of years now that they were married and it is true that it is sad when any relationship doesn't work out. However, sometimes it can better for everyone involved if the parents aren't together. My parents divorced back in 2003, I was 19 at the time, my brother was 24 though it was strange our dad not living with us anymore, we were all alot happier because of it and our relationship with our dad improved as a result.

This is true. That was my story with my mother's second husband.

Who's abusing who? Was Matt Roth abusing Laurie? His character on Roseanne was abussive...I didn't hear anything about the actor.

@ Stuck: I think mainly think this thread got spunoff into a somewhat still relatable topic regarding abuse and divorce. I doubt that Laurie's husband was abusing her.

Oh Okay. I just didn't hear anybody say that it wasn't true. I wasn't sure. I wouldn't want Matt Roth to be called an abuser if he wasn't. He was great on Roseanne as Fisher. I think Dan took care of him good. lol
