I hated some of it, but liked some of it. As a standalone season, it's HILARIOUS and had so many amazing comedic moments, but putting it with Seasons 1-8 ... it can't compare. It just didn't fit.

season 9 is good for what it is, but it's not comparable to the show at it's peak. I think the show had it's moments of camp earlier in the series, but not to the extent that middle America was scared off. Middle America ran like hell from the last season because shows like Ab Fab and the sort are too much for them. I enjoy season 9, but it's almost a totally different series from seasons 1-8.

Season 9 is great, nearly finished watching the season 9 DVD and my favourite episode form that whole series is the one where the networks want to do a story about Roseanne, the random swearing makes it even funnier with the cookoo noises covering it up.

On the video commentary on that episode Roseanne says to Michael Fishman "Did someone know that we were going to insert some of those words" so they must have actually used some swear words.

I finally saw season nine for the first time last month, after hearing the horror stories about how awful it was. And it's... not that bad. Some of the episodes were very touching (Dan's return, Darlene's baby, the finale), and I actually liked the off-the-wall humor. DJ actually acquires a personality in this season, & becomes an interesting character in his own right. And God help me, I laughed at Rosambo. There were some truly awful episodes (that wrestling one, OMG) but it's pretty watchable overall. It doesn't have the brilliance of early Roseanne, but it's still better than most sitcoms out there. And the finale just made up for it all.

I am about 8 episodes into season 9 at the mo. It is quite good but not the same show. The problem withb Roseanne is that the kids grew up. It was funnier when they had boyfriends etc. Later it just got too complicated to come up with stories to involve everyone. There is a lot to like in season 9 though...Ab Fab for starters.

Yeah, I just rewatched some season 9 episodes last night. I think the whole lottery storyline wasn't a bad idea, but it was executed poorly. Stuff like the spa episode, the prince Carlos episodes, Roseambo, combined with Dan missing lead to a rocky first half of the season. The second half of the season was much better. If John Goodman around all season and maybe if there were some better storylines, season 9 could've turned out very well.
