"David and the Stewardess" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is a fun episode. I have it on VHS from the Disney Channel era, but wish it would be released on DVD. While on a plane with the rest of the family, David becomes acquainted with a stewardess, and tries to surprise her later by booking a flight, but it backfires when he realizes she's not actually working that day. Anyway, I love it for its telling 1950's details: 1) the way everyone is dressed on the plane -- dresses, heels, coats & ties; 2) the fabric "doilies" on the seatbacks (once known as "antimacassars"); and 3) the ease with which David hops on a flight -- as if he were catching a bus. Simpler, yet more civilized times!

The great irony of David hopping a flight with ease is that, in real life, he tried to board a flight at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Anna, back in 2003 I believe, and he was detained by security because the name David Nelson was on the terror suspect/do not fly list. He asked if the suspect's middle name was Ozzie, lol...finally a police officer there who had known Harriet recognized David and got him onto the flight...but it sure wasn't with ease!

I saw that story in the paper when it happened. The Nelson's sure have had some bad experiences with flying
