Having to travel to New York City if you were going to write a magazine column.

Well, she was a nurse... this one seems reasonable to me, even in today's world.

A nurse, but not a nutritionist.

Sorry. It was a pretty dark joke. (About as dark as Chestnut roasting on an open fire).

I was trying to understand it, because it sounded like you were referencing Mrs. Garrett needed to be in the kitchen because the Mystery Meat won't stew itself, but I was talking about her being in a student's room.

Many nurses cross over to nutrition.

Oh, I agree that her careers do seem to come out of left field; we get a mention of her being an RN, but never see her use those skills. She's a pilot; a nutritionist; a bakery/delicatessen owner; a housemother; a housekeeper; the manager of a gift shop; etc.

The nurse-to-nutritionist feels more reasonable, to me, than some of her other career paths.

Well she didn't work as a pilot, she just took some flying lessons (but would that be a hoot to see).

Don't forget she was a taxi driver! That's the one that always throws me off.

True, she didn't work as a pilot. It was a hobby. It's too bad we never got to see her in that plane!

I wouldn't even call it a hobby, since it was apparently a one-time thing, at least from what we see. But I would love if it really were a regular hobby for her. To see her flying scarf and goggles hanging on a peg in the Eastland kitchen or in her bedroom---what fun!
