I know, right? Symbolic to say the least.

AMY BILLIG:

This is the driveway leading to the Billig home (3605 Poinciana Avenue in Coconut Grove) but the house isn't visible from the road unfortunately.

After leaving home on March 5, 1974, Amy walked about a block and a half down Poinciana Avenue. This shot shows you the route she took.

Where Poinciana Avenue meets Main Highway is where she stuck out her thumb. Construction workers on the street that day verified seeing Amy hitchhiking at this intersection.

Amy's destination, had she made it, was at her father's gallery called 'Dimensions,' at 3195 Commodore Plaza. Today, the gallery is an Indian restaurant.

Wow, thanks! Amy Billig-case is one of my pet cases. I felt so bad for her mother.

There's a ton of articles about the case in the google news archive from the 70's and 80's. I was surprised to learn that in the 3 months that followed Amy's disappearance, the Billig's got close to a hundred prank phone calls in response to the missing person posters that were displayed throughout the city. One included an extortion attempt for $30,000 from twin 16 year old boys, who had no criminal record of their own. They had no idea where Amy was, they just thought they would try to get some "easy" cash.

I don't know how Amy's mother could have survived those first couple of months, much less the decades that followed, without going crazy.

I guess people were just as cruel 40 years ago as they can be today.

Did you hear about that man who harassed the Billig's for several years after Amy's disappearance?

I think there is an extensive thread here where it's spoken about. I read the book co-written by Amy's mother and it goes into that topic. What a sick man! If I remember correctly, his wife apologized to Mrs. Billig at the trial.

FRANKLIN FLOYD:

This is Indian Meridian Elementary School in Choctaw, Oklahoma where Floyd kidnapped Michael Hughes and his principle on September 12, 1994.

RALPH PROBST:

Ralph's house at 8802 S. Corcoran in Hometown, Illinois.

Ralph was shot to death through his kitchen window on April 10, 1967. The Probst family had a common driveway with their next door neighbor. I drew an arrow to the kitchen window where the shooting happened.

Unsolved Mysteries also filmed the reenactment here as all the neighboring homes match up to what we saw in the segment.

DWAYNE McCORKENDALE

This is the rest area in Chandler, Oklahoma along the Turner Turnpike where Dwayne was shot to death at a payphone on November 12, 1988.

MICHAEL ROSENBLUM:

The Rosenblum house in Pittsburgh, PA where Michael left home for the last time on February 13, 1980 with his girlfriend, Lisa.

As you can tell from the screen cap, the reenactment of Michael storming off was filmed here as well...

The other areas of interest in this case have been impossible to locate. Maybe someone else will have better luck? The gas station where Michael took off in Lisa's car was torn down several years after his disappearance and turned into a used car lot. I have no idea which car lot is the right one today. And we know that Lisa's car was discovered on River Road where Pittsburgh meets Baldwin Borough's south side but there are about a dozen River Roads along the Monongahela River and I have no idea which one is the correct one. None of the ones I've looked at on Google Maps look like the River Road in the UM segment.

Sends chills through me knowing what happened there so long ago. To my knowledge, they are still investigating Dwayne's murder.
