To the OP: Welcome!

I've watched seasons 1-8 repeatedly, but lately, haven't even been able to make it all the way through season 7. I'd say anything prior to that (Season 1 - 6 - remember in one of the early episodes, Stack pointing at the screen when saying "Join me.......maybe you can help solve a mystery....")

Same here. I'm finding it particularly difficult to sit through most if not all the lost love cases, & to a lesser extent the treasure segments. Fortunately there doesn't appear to be that many of them.

Season 1, I'd say, with 2 & 3 being close seconds & thirds respectively for me. 4 & 5 were both very good too, and when there was the most nostalgia associated with Unsolved Mysteries. Seasons 6 & 7 was when the show began to seem a bit more tame, after the song, intro, and graphics were slightly redone, but weren't half bad either for the most part at least. Season 8 was when things began to take a not so great turn for the better, when it was revamped in a way. That being the case with the totally new tune, and intro, and began to focus on the supernatural, and unsolvable mysteries far too much more, which wasn't exactly the show's main purpose, nor was it nearly as scary as the 80's & early 90's seasons. The later seasons was when it began to focus more on crime as originally intended, and was better than the mid 90's segments I.M.O., albeit still a far cry from when U.M. was totally great. It was almost like it was a totally different show, even if that's unfortunately not too uncommon as things go on in later seasons.

Of the earlier "classic" seasons, Season 1 has lots of great cases, but 2 is a bit disappointing IMO...just an enormous amount of paranormal cases, some of them pretty silly even by UM standards (a 20+ minute segment on crop circles!)

As I've said before, I think the last few seasons are underrated, as the producers start skipping a lot of the UFO/psychic stuff in favour of crimes; but the decline in budget is obvious and a bit sad.

The later seasons definitely weren't half bad, and enjoyed more than the mid ones for the most part. Those were what kind of caused me to lose interest in the show at the time, and began to focus more on America's Most Wanted (especially when U.M. went on hiatus for a brief year or so), which was great in the 90's, and recorded many episodes of from that time frame as well.

I agree with what I believe to be a growing consensus, that 1-4 are the best. The more there were UFO-paranormal stories, the less great it was.

The Farina episodes get a tough rap, especially before Amazon Prime. Not nearly as good as the original, OF COURSE, but we got some updates, and it was still better than 90% of the crap on TV.

I just want to have a chance to use "Hank Queen" as my alias someday.

L.O.L., and Hank Queen sure was a strange alias to say the least! The Farina episodes were far too tame for U.M., but they still served a good purpose by briefly giving us back Unsolved Mysteries, despite being recycled cases that were way too far in the past, and/or already solved. But at least we got to see several rare episodes, which Lifetime would never show, including a few Final Appeals, that none of us would never have gotten to see otherwise.
