Bumping this case. Just curious if anyone knows if Walter ever had any family members come forward?

I don't understand how the hell he wasn't found for over a year. The stench must have been unbearable. Sad case.

This is really sad, dead for a year and nobody knows. I read that his passport had exotic stamps, he lived alone and had brothers and sisters. The wiki article states that rice was involved in a car accident earlier in the year which the official says might have caused his death, i guess the stress he means.

Anyone sort of think maybe he was in the witness protection? He had a huge estate for a guy who lived alone and was a cook. Probably saved a lot but maybe he was say in other ways with money. Thats a huge estate and surprised no relative came forward.

Though I am not black I find his death one of the sadder cases profiled. Here we have a single working class black man who worked hard in life, saved money but nobody was there for him at the end.

Wow, good call about the witness protection claim, I didn't even think about that, makes sense. Or maybe he was a criminal who was laying low.

You don't have to be black to find this case sad

I found some info and updated the Unsolved Mysteries wiki page with it.. An article from the 2007 Index-Journal has quotes from investigators that make this case even odder.

Apparently his Social Security card was possibly fake (Though I found him in the SSDI, so.. That seems odd).. His birth certificate listing his birth in Abbeville, there are no corresponding records at Abbeville hospitals.. The passport led them to the CIA who refused to comment.

Interesting read..

The first part on page 1 has nothing interesting on it.. Read the "Who" portion, it's about Walter.

Witness Protection, while a decent thought.. I think they usually create a better background.

Him being born in 1920.. He SHOULD show up in WWII records as he would have been prime age then, you would think. I can find nothing on him.

I wouldn't read too much into the CIA not commenting.. I think that's probably their standard M.O. It certainly adds a new level for the tin-foil hat crowd, but..

But I've searched.. The oddest thing about this case, and maybe someone has better access to military records than I do.. The fact there are no military records. I've found nothing to indicate that he was unwell, had a gimpy leg or anything that would disqualify him from the military, and him being 21-25 during the war.. Seems VERY odd to not find any records on him.

Even if he was infirm in some way and would be 4-F.. I'd think he'd still have had to fill out a draft card.

If anyone has good military records.. Seems to me that'd be a good place to look.

This was one of the saddest cases I've ever seen featured on UM. I saw it for the first time yesterday and couldn't believe he wasn't found for over a year. The worst part was the update.
