All of those episodes were shot in color--it's just that the TV print for ABC was black and white.

Probably by fall 1962 the show had proven itself well enough that ABC relented and showed it in color.
Here's an interesting site with lots of posts about the beginnings of color TV. There is one post about 1962 for ABC, which had one of its first color shows, The Jetsons, and the conversion of The Flintstones to color.

My guess is that it probably will be ditched, but I could be wrong.

So that explains it.I think you may be right about the affiliates not being equipped to show them in color. After all with the first 2 seasons, we're talking the early 1960s when of course very few shows were even filmed in color. In a way it's amazing that from day one they did film The Flintstones in color, and I think the color contributed to the show being such a big hit later on in reruns.

yea; he IS right about the reason being a lot of the affiliates not being able to broadcast in color yet. That's the same reason THE LUCY SHOW on CBS was broadcast in black-and-white for the first 2 season even though CBS only filmed the first season in black-and-white and THE MUNSTERS was broadcast in black-and-white even though it was filmed in color.

So some bad news. I just checked the schedule for September 8, and it looks like we will not be getting The Jeffersons on Sunday nights.

Instead, we'll be getting local news and Matter of Fact.

Are you sure the Munsters was filmed in color? I know the pilot was, but I didn't the whole series was.

The Munsters, outside of one of the pilots, and the post-TV-series movies, was filmed in B&W. The Lucy Show was filmed in B&W for the first season and color for the rest of the series, but was not broadcast in color until its fourth season in 1965. That was the first year CBS began telecasting any series in color. It was less about affiliate capabilities (ABC, a smaller network with weaker affiliates, was regularly broadcasting some series in color three years earlier) and more about CBS not wanting to use the color standard pushed by rival NBC.

Great news ! METV is playing musical chairs in the Columbus Ohio area. I thought I was going to lose METV as on 9/26 it will go off the air on channel 4.2. However on the same day, METV will be switching to the CBS affiliate 10.2 !! The only downer is that METV will be replacing H & I on 10.2. For me no big deal as I don't watch it too often but to the others that do,it's too bad. I'm just glad our area will still have METV. Thank you channel 10 !

Maybe they could add more Hanna-Barbara Cartoons along with the "The Flintstones".

I'd love to see "Wacky Races" , "Huckleberry Hound", "Top Cat", among others again.

I wouldn't mind them adding Beany and Cecil or Magilla Gorilla as well

I've seen nothing about "Mama's Family," and it's not like MeTV would answer inquiries about it, thus I imagine it's heading off the air, unfortunately. The 6 p.m. viewing is part of my weekday routine, though I do have the series on DVD.

I've loved "The Flintstones" since I was a youth watching the reruns and newer specials, so I will watch it upon its MeTV debut.

Not everyone gets it, so you’re right about that.
