Default MOJC Updates

---Chris Pine Contract Talks At Impasse

Gen-TV has one big mess on its hands as contract negotiations with the principal cast members of "Mallory's of Jefferson County", the #1 overall rated TV series has reached a huge stumbling block. Sources tell us that at this point "talks are effectively at a standstill as Gen-TV is unable to come to terms with the demands from Chris Pine." Sources tell us that while Gen-TV was able to give Pine the salary he was asking for, the source of friction seems to stem from Gen-TV's scheduling demands, wanting Pine to be more available for filming, while his team is seeking less of a workload for the actor, citing his movie schedule. Essentially the contract talks are at a standstill, and when Gen-TV threatened to recast the role "all heck broke loose. While Gen-TV expected to get support from producers and other cast members, it has backfired." "Remaning cast members William Devane, Donald Sutherland and others are refusing to resign unless Gen-TV is able to resign Chris Pine as well."

This could potentially be a major problem for Gen-TV Studios, as "Mallory's" has a commanding lead in the ratings over all other series, and generates more profits than any other series on television. A delay of any kind on new episodes could prove fundamentally destructive for Gen-TV.

A source close to the situation tells us that while things are at a stop for now, it is very possible talks could resume before the new week begins and that Gen-TV Studios is going to work overtime to find a way to accomdate or reach a compromise with Pine.

MOJC Contract Updates:
Crisis Averted as Cast Resigns

Despite threats of a walk-off and a seemingly impossible impasse with Chris Pine, Gen-TV has avoided a crisis as Pine and the rest of the "Mallory's of Jefferson County" cast has resigned with the show, allowing for production on season six to begin, though two weeks later than originally planned.

Sources close to Gen-TV confirm that new vice president Eva Vargas was a crucial player in getting the cast to resign, and especially in getting Chris Pine to make some compromises and return for season six.

Those compromises include agreeing to up his episode per season minimum from 14 to 22 episodes, (a typical season of MOJC is usually around 26 episodes, far more than most broadcast TV series these days). He also agreed to take a small pay cut in exchange for a more flexible filming schedule (basically he'll film all his scenes in a three day period instead of a typical five day period); and when possible Gen-TV will send their film crews to his movie sets to allow him to film for "MOJC" while he is also working on a movie. He will still retain perks such as back-end profits, producing and directing credits as he always has.

Sources tell us that Vargas talked with Pine and his representatives for over two hours before reaching a deal. Once word spread that Pine had resigned the remainder of the series cast resigned as well. Donald Sutherland, William Devane, Leighton Meester and others were threatening to quit the series if Chris Pine didn't resign.

While Gen-TV won't confirm, it is believed that Chris Pine agreed to sign a two-year contract, and the remaining cast members signed three-year contracts. For Vargas, locking MOJC in for another year is a big-deal and essentially saves their skin, as MOJC is easily the networks most profitable program. It is a feather in her cap and gives her a great amount of respect from her colleauges at Gen-TV. It certianly must be impressive to Ross Chin, as well as the board of directors.

Default It's Official: Mallory's of Jefferson County Ending in 2018

Breaking News:
Mallory's End Date Set
----Series Will End After Season Six

Gen-TV has confirmed what many have speculated about for months now, season six will be the final season for "Mallory's of Jefferson County", as producers decided "we have told the story that we set out to tell and frankly, we don't believe we have anything left to tell with these characters."

The series which debuted in June 2014 as a limited-run series was never intended to be a long-running program but was so successful it was quickly renewed for the remainder of the season and has run ever since then. It has been the #1 rated program on TV every season since it debuted, by a wide margin and has gained a massive international following ever since.

The series returns for its sixth and final season in the fall. The decision to end it was a mutual one between the producers and the network. However, this is a huge blow to Gen-TV's bottom line as the series is a financial winner for them, generating nearly 65% of Gen-TV's annual income.

Default Sisters News: Season 12 To Be Last Season

Breaking News:
Sisters Ending After Season 12

On the heels of announcing that "Mallory's of Jefferson County" would end after six seasons, Gen-TV is also confirming that "Sisters" will also end its run in 2018, and that the upcoming 12th season will be its final season. The decision came down to the financials related producing a long-running program. Despite generating excellent ratings, the series is just too expensive to produce any longer.

When announcing this decision Vice President of Gen-TV Eva Vargas said "Sisters has been a valuable brand for Gen-TV since its inception and we are unlikely to find a program that so thoroughly informs the national culture and that opens up conversations in families about very serious social issues. Sisters has done something very few series could aspire to do, it has become a teaching tool and a way for families to connect with each other." "Sisters has gone beyond being an entertaining TV series, it has become a groundbreaker. It's legacy will live on forever, but for now, it is time to say goodbye to these characters as Season 12 will be its final season."

Default Social Media Reacts to "Sisters" cancellation

Hollywood Insider Report:
Twitter, Facebook Explode over "Sisters" cancellation

When Gen-TV announced earlier this week that they would end both "Sisters" and "Mallory's of Jefferson County" next season, they likely expected some reaction to that news; particularly for "Mallory's" the #1 rated series on TV. But what happened instead has sent shockwaves through the network. Shortly after news broke of these cancellations, fans began to respond online and social media outlets report that "Sisters" got the biggest reaction; where over 18.3 million posts or comments appeared in reaction to the show being canceled.

Reactions ranged from sad to straight-up outrage, with one poster writing "not sure how I'm going to survive without my weekly fix of the Bishop Sisters and their extended family. " Another poster wrote "Screw Gen-TV for canceling sisters, the best show on TV."

Several petitions have surfaced online, begging Gen-TV to reconsider and keep "Sisters" on the air. So far, these petitions have collected over 2,000 signatures combined. Even the stars of Gen-TV's signature drama got in on the action, with former cast member Alicia Silverstone writing "Gen-TV cancels Sisters? AS IF!" (a reference to her popular film "Clueless"). Cast member Maura West wrote "Sad to see it end, goodbye Sisters, canceled after 12 seasons."

According to sources, even many celebrities are upset about "Sisters" ending, and at least two have offered their considerable financial resources in keeping the show in the air. Ellen Pompeo, star of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" reportedly wrote to gen-tv executives and offered to partially fund another season of the show, writing "we need to keep series that showcase strong female relationships on TV. Sisters is a unique series that focuses on the relationships between adult women and how they support each other."

Although unconfirmed by Gen-TV, sources claim that singer Taylor Swift has also reached out and offered to help fund another season of the series though her representatives did not comment on this claim.

In related news, Gen-TV is reportedly also rather shocked at the lack of emotions regarding the cancellation of "Mallory's of Jefferson County", which they expected to out number support for "Sisters".

For her part, Gen-TV's Vice President Eva Vargas seems to be taking this in stride saying "Sisters has been a valuable and significant part of the Gen-TV brand for twelve seasons and will continue to be one of our signature series for decades to come, however, it will not continue production beyond the 12th season, which will debut in mid-season 2018."

The series premiere of the program drew a stunning 2.8 million viewers and a 4.2 in the 18-49 demo. This easily makes it the strongest debut for a new series in Showtime history, trumping the 2011 "Homeland" premiere by nearly a half a million viewers.

The good news continues for the series, as ratings have held steady week to week in the subsequent three airings. Gen-TV Studios Executive Alex Montez says "This is an unqualified success for Gen-TV Studios and we are thrilled that people are responding to the powerful messages of hope and triumphing over adversity that this series so poignantly delivers."

It isn't just viewers who have responded as the series has attracted unanimous praise. On the professional review site Metacritic it holds a 97% rating, up from 86% in January. On Rotten Tomatoes, another review site, "Finding Home" holds an 84% rating. These rankings indicate universal acclaim.

Response from Showtime is also positive, with Showtime President of Programming Gary Levine saying "Everybody at Showtime is extremely proud to be airing Finding Home and we are overjoyed at the positive response it has gotten so far from viewers and critics." "Finding Home is a once in a generation success story for us."

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN RENEWS THREE GEN-TV PRODUCED SERIES
YTN and GEN-TV have signed massive new contracts for three GEN-TV produced to continue airing on YTN for the foreseeable future.

Freshman comedy Upselling, already renewed for a second season of 22 episodes, has been renewed for two more additional seasons (also set for 22 episodes). The number one comedy on the YTN summer slate has essentially guaranteed itself a spot on the schedule for the next three years.

Life in Prison has been extended to a fourth season, set for 20 episodes. The series was initially ordered for three seasons, each of 13 episodes. Airing on Friday nights, Life in Prison is averaging 4 million viewers and 0.6 A18-49.

Finally, Outdoor Renovation has been renewed for a second season, with a 100 episode order. The series began airing its first season two years ago and will wrap up the 100 episode order later this month. Outdoor Renovation averaged 1.5 million viewers and 0.4 A18-49 in the nearly 60 episodes it has aired this summer.

The only series left out of the deal was Second Chance, which has already been renewed for a fourth season of 13 episodes.

Insiders tell us YTN approached GEN-TV to set firm plans for the next few years with the series. GEN-TV offered YTN the three series "at nearly pennies", one insider told us early this morning. Another insider said, "The price YTN paid for these series is next to nothing. They get full seasons of three series for the price of one of their own. They reap major advertising money, even if they rate at next to zero."

All three will finish their current season later this month and return at a later date.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN RENEWS FIVE SUMMER SERIES; CANCELS TWO
YTN is firming up its summer schedule for next year, renewing five hit series for additional seasons.

The number one summer series on the network, The Neighborhood, will return for an eighth season next summer. The current season will likely finish with its worst season-to-season numbers yet, down about 22% through 11 episodes this season. Despite the drop, The Neighborhood is still averaging a robust 7.5 million viewers and 1.9 A18-49.

Sophomore drama Bloodlines will also return for another season next summer, set for its third. The third season will again have 16 episodes, in line with the current season. Through 11 episodes, Bloodlines is averaging 6.54 million viewers and 1.0 A18-49, up 5% in total viewers from last summer (although down 19% in the demo). What is impressive is that last summer it aired behind The Neighborhood, and this year is airing in behind freshman drama Miami Examiner.

Veteran comedy Extended Family will return for a seventh season next summer. The current sixth season is averaging 5.48 million viewers and 1.01 A18-49, up in total viewers for the third straight season (up 3% from last year). If the trend holds for the remainder of the season, Extended Family will have its most watched season ever (previous 5.44 million in season two). In the demo, Extended Family is down a slight 5% year-to-year.

Finally, YTN has also renewed summer game shows 30 Seconds to Win and Locked for additional seasons. Freshman 30 Seconds to Win is averaging a meager 4.2 million viewers and 0.65 A18-49 through ten episodes. The series will undergo a minor revamp before returning next summer, with an expanded 20 episode order. Veteran Locked is averaging 3.99 million viewers and 0.63 A18-49, down 17% and 36%, respectively, from last season. This was its first time airing during the summer. It has a 13 episode order for its seventh season.

UPDATE: YTN has cancelled third year anthology drama Living in Fear and freshman Miami Medical Examiner.

Living in Fear is averaging 3.48 million viewers and 0.85 18-49 in its current third season, down 18% and 22%, respectively, from last season. It lost its Fear Factor lead in this year and never fully recovered. Its performance wasn't bad, but YTN never seemed to know what to do with the series.

Meanwhile, freshman Miami Medical Examiner will not move past its initial 13 episode order. The series is averaging 6.6 million viewers and 0.96 18-49 through 10 episodes, but typically loses over 60% of its The Neighborhood lead in (lead out Bloodlines usually grows from Miami Medical Examiner, too).

YTN has now made decisions on all of its summer slate.

Default Gen-TV Summer News

Gen-TV Renewals & Cancellations
---Fate of Gen-TV's Summer Programming:

Gen-TV Network has made a decision about the fate of its currently airing summer original series, and Hollywood Insider has the full scoop. It is more good news than bad, as Gen-TV announces renewals for five out of seven freshmen series to debut this summer, not including returning series which we'll discuss later.

"RENEWALS":

Gen-TV has issued renewals for five out of seven series they debuted this summer; starting with game show "Climb The Pyramid" which was saved by them after YTN canceled it last year. After being retooled it was moved over to Gen-TV where it debuted this summer and has averaged 5.6 in demos. Gen-TV is pleased with the solid performance and has ordered two additional seasons; a second season which will most likely air in midseason (January-March 2018) and a third season set to air in summer 2018 (May-August 2018).

Gen-TV's President Ross Chin had this to say about "Climb The Pyramid's" performance "Climb The Pyramid has been an unparalleled success for Gen-TV since it debuted earlier this summer." "We are extremely impressed with how quickly it has developed a loyal audience and how well it has maintained its ratings despite airing multiple times a week."

Also getting a renewal today is freshmen reality series "Investigations & Explorations with Leah Remini" which features Leah Remini investigating unexplained and unusual events, ideas and phenomenon from American history and culture. The reality series has averaged 16.5 million viewers and a 4.6 in demos. It will return next summer for 22 episodes.

Gen-TV also announces a renewal for returning reality series "Celebrity Cooking Battles" which will return for its third season in 2018.

Gen-TV has also decided to renew "Without Borders", the critically acclaimed docudrama centered around doctors working in worn torn countries to bring western medicine to undeveloped nations. It will return sometime in 2018 with new episodes.

Finally, Gen-TV is announcing renewals for three returning series; the first being "Being Janet Jackson" which will return in summer 2018 for its third season. Finally, Gen-TV is expanding on a previous renewal for returning dramas "Love Affair" and "The Hardest Goodbye". "Love Affair", currently airing its fifth season had already been renewed for a sixth season, but today has earned a renewal for a seventh season as well. Ross Chin explains "We are very proud of the devoted and loyal audience that has developed for Love Affair and the fantastic work done by the writers, producers, directors, cast, and crew and we are proud to announce that they will be able to continue producing fantastic TV drama for two more seasons."

"Love Affair" has averaged 14 million viewers this season and a 4.5 in demos. Meanwhile, "The Hardest Goodbye" currently airing its third season, had a previous renewal bringing it through its fourth season, and will now gain an extra season, being renewed for season five as well.

CANCELATIONS:

Now for the bad news, getting canceled is "Love with Jennifer Love Hewitt" which joins previously canceled "The Winners Circle" and "Mob City" on the chopping block.

Oh fiddle sticks I haven't the heart to cancel any of BTV's current schedule so instead I've launched Ballistic 2 where all the summer shows will have a home and the MTVM's can be effectively translated into shows might even bring back a few shows.
