Gen-TV returned to the airwaves for the new year with new episodes of "7th Heaven" and "Having Faith" (both in new timeslots) and a new season of returning reality series "Switching Places." "7th Heaven" and "Having Faith" both continued to show growth and were in the upper double digits in demos. "Switching Places" returned with significant viewer erosion (likely due to having been off-air nearly a year.)

8pm: 7th Heaven (New; Timeslot Premiere): 23.8 million/13.9 (13.94) 18-49

9pm: Having Faith (New; Timeslot Premiere): 27.5 million/`17.4 (17.58) 18-49

Sunday, January 19:

Gen-TV's second Sunday of 2020 was a decidedly less impressive outing than a week prior. Nearly every series was down in total viewers, and some in demos. "American Heroes" also dropped in demos to a 5.4 and also lost a huge portion of its total audience.

"Making It Work" was down slightly in demos, but otherwise solid. "Roomies" was down in total viewers but was up in demos. "Baker's Dozen" was basically solid week to week.

8pm: Making It Work (New): 21.3 million/11.4 (11.42) 18-49

830: Roomies (New): 17.54 million/6.7 (6.76) 18-49

"Unemployed" was the only cause for concern with a drop in both demos and total viewers. "Grounded" was up in both demos and total viewers (but still is likely on the bubble for next season). "Our Pet Dragon" was down in demos and total viewers, but still it posted a 12.7 in demos. "Grand Jury" was another surprise success, posting gains in demos and total viewers in excess of 25% each.

8pm: Stuck In The Middle (New): 13.1 million/3.6 (3.69) 18-49

830: Unemployed (New): 13.1 million/2.4 (2.41) 18-49

8pm: Bless Your Heart (New): 23.2 million/15.1 (15.13) 18-49

830: The Boss Lady (New): 12.1 million/4.4 (4.46) 18-49

-----------------

Friday, January 24:

Gen-TV's Friday night was another big success. "Having Faith" was up in demos to a 18.3 and "7th Heaven" with a 15.5 was also up in demos. "Switching Places" posted a 6.3 in demos, which is a slight increase.

8pm: 7th Heaven (New): 23.4 million/15.5 (15.54) 18-49

Hollywood Now presents highlights from the 2020 Winter Press Tour. Today we're discussing Gen-TV Studios panel from the TCA's. The TCA's are the Television Critics Association Press Tour, an annual press event in which television studios discuss their programming lineups, business goals and other issues for television critics and journalists.

The topic of conversation at the Gen-TV panel was the upcoming February board of directors election for President. Despite a splashy campaign, Eva Varga's bid for President has been a bit of a non-starter, and she's falling far behind in the polls from where she should be. Benny Portman is way out in front right now, polling triple digits higher than second place Ross Chin. Considering her high profile and her legal victory earlier this year when she was released from prison and had her entire conviction overturned. Vargas, who is reportedly just days away from filing a huge wrongful conviction lawsuit against the state of California and the United States Government should be polling better, but is stuck in fourth place, with only Dylan Garrettson polling lower.

When asked why they think Eva isn't doing better, Gen-TV's current Vice President Amy Fung-Wilson said "I think people just find it hard to trust Eva. Even though her conviction was overturned she ultimately proved herself to be a rat by turning state's evidence and I think people at Gen-TV find that distasteful." Margo Danbury, the current President of Gen-TV Studios said this "I can't explain it, but we have a bevy of talented candidates running for Board President and I think they'd all be an excellent choice."

Speaking of Danbury, she spoke at length about her plans for Gen-TV in 2020 (and beyond), and those plans largely include increasing development not only for Gen-TV Network proper, but for Gen-TV's syndication & distribution arm; a field that has been lagging in recent years. "We've developed a number of shows for YTN and some other cable networks (such as 1-2-3 Cook which moved to TLC from A&E; and Upselling and Life After Prison for YTN, plus several others) but it is time to greatly increase the number of programming we produce for first run syndication and to be distributed to other outlets." "In the past first-run programming for non-Gen TV outlets accounted for nearly 38% of our business, but from 2016 to 2019 it accounted for only 14%."

Among the ideas she has to increase that number include "a return to the popular game show market which was very lucrative for us in the past." "We have multiple high profile titles in the works that could become huge successes for us." "One such title is a TV version of the popular mobile game Ring of Trivia" Danbury says "The app is hugely popular with an estimated 3.2 million active users." "We have been working on acquiring the development rights for a TV version since 2017 and we will have some big news to announce about that in the coming weeks."

Two of the biggest series Gen-TV Studios ever produced were game shows; "Clue" and "Perfection" which ran for nearly a decade each and are among the 25 most profitable shows the studio has ever produced. They both spawned numerous spin-off's including the uber-popular Primetime versions "Extreme Clue" and "Extreme Perfection." Revival's of both series have also been in active discussions with the network.

Danbury also plans to continue developing new programming for Stream-Me, the Gen-TV owned streaming service which was relaunched this past fall and has been going through a rough patch. In 2019 it fell from the #3 most-used streaming service in the US to #7. Worldwide it fell from #4 to #20. Several new series were launched (and several more to come) with mixed results, but none that became out of the box instant successes. "We're still attempting to find the right mix of programming to make Stream-Me a dominant force."

Daytime Television is also a point of interest for Danbury who says "We're looking to give our daytime programming a huge facelift." The first half of that goal was met earlier this fall when we launched our pre-school and elementary programming block of sitcoms including primetime transplants "Magic School", "Fish out of Water" and "Head of Household" which moved to daytime and are performing well above expectations. Particularly "Magic School" continues to be a point of pride for Gen-TV. Danbury says "taking that formula and expanding it is among my goals for this year and giving it some new energy as well." One possibility she mentioned is creating a children's programming block for saturday or sunday mornings. "We have several programming ideas in mind including the return of "The Special Classroom" which was originally intended to move to daytime this past fall but was held-back due to liscenings issues. "That show will be back very soon as those licensing issues have been cleared up." "An announcement on that is coming soon."

Talk shows used to be the bread and butter of Gen-TV's daytime schedule, but in recent years they have lost traction as no new talk show that has debuted since 2015 has become a long-term success. "We haven't really looked into developing new talk shows as they have been a bit of a sore topic for us." "But we are encouraged by the numbers we're seeing for "Mouthy Broads" and "Hot Flashes." so we'll see." One genre that Gen-TV isn't investing any money or time on right now is soap operas; "that is a non-issue for us as we haven't had any success in that area. Unless we found a rock solid script that would be a surefire hit we wouldn't even consider a new soap opera."

Moving onto primetime, the biggest cause for concern right now, at least according to Danbury is "finding a way to save Boston Blues." The police drama debuted last season (2018-2019) to rock solid reviews and incredible numbers (in season one it averaged over 25 million viewers per episode); but those numbers dropped in season two (dropping to an average of 14.3 million per episode) and the once luminous reviews have also faded; with critics calling season two "tedious, a bore and devoid of redeeming quality." Margo Danbury says "It is among our top priorities to fix Boston Blues; to restore its critical reputation and renew viewer interest in what is an incredible series with franchise opportunity." "We have been searching for months and are thisclose to securing a top-level talent to take over as showrunner and to implement a plan of injecting new life into the series." "Fan are going to be blown away when they see what is in store for this show." "So, nobody needs to worry the show is still a big priority for us and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon." "However there is likely to be some big casting changes upcoming as the series evolves."

Another show in the process of evolving albeit with far less fanfare is "Medical Center" which isn't even present on the new midseason schedule (being displaced by a new drama called Feds.) This show debuted in September to lukewarm ratings and sup-par reviews. It was pulled from the schedule in October and was present on the first draft of the mid-season schedule but was pulled from that in November. Sources at the time said the show was being retooled; and indeed star Patricia Richardson was fired and Megan Fox was hired to headline a rebooted cast. But since November we've heard nothing more about it since. "We're still working on a new path for this show that will help us find an audience for it. But creatively we haven't found it yet." "At this time it remains a priority for us and all I can say is that Megan Fox is still attached to the series." "We have no information on a possible return date."

Several returning favorites still remain on the bench, but not for long. Fung-Wilson says that "Degree of Guilt" will be present on the April schedule revision, as will returning reality franchise "High School Diaries" while the sixth season of "Celebrity Cooking Battles" will likely not air until Summer 2020. Long-rumored mini-series "American Family" (a spin-off of "American Citizen") has been scrapped all-together, and despite this "we're still looking for a project to collaborate with Laura Linney on."

Editor's Note:

We mistakenly misidentified the fired star of "Medical Center" as Patricia Heaton. The fired star is actually Patricia Richardson. We apologize for the confusion and have corrected it in the above article.

Gen-TV News
Gen-TV Cancels Three Series:

Gen-TV has officially pulled the plug on three series that have struggled. After months of speculation, the network confirms the official cancellation of "Medical Center" a high profile flop that never really stood a chance once it was removed from the schedule for "retooling", an effort that Margo Danbury confirms "never really went anywhere and was mostly a disaster."

The show debuted in September and was an instant failure, with abysmal reviews and lackluster ratings. It was pulled from the schedule in October and it was reported the show "was being retooled for a relaunch later in the year"; but that never happened and the show is now officially done.

Gen-TV is also axing two freshmen series, "American Heroes" will not return for a second season; a fate that was expected as it was always considered a limited series and the chance of a second always seemed a remote possibility at best. Lastly, "Served" a process server comedy is also being axed.

8- Adventure of a Lifetime - SEASON FOUR PREMIERE - 5.35 million viewers and 0.9 (0.874) A18-49, down a tenth from its fall premiere (and in line with the .856 season three average).

9- Asylum - SERIES PREMIERE - 4.07 million viewers and 0.6 (0.585) A18-49. Overall, this is a pretty rough debut number, but YTN will likely let it play out a few episodes before making any decisions.

10- Day in the Life - SEASON THREE PREMIERE - 4.02 million viewers and 0.5 (0.543) A18-49, down four tenths from its season two premiere in September 2018 (.894). This is not a series low, however, as the show slipped as low as .528 in season two before rebounding to .829 two weeks later. YTN has always been behind the show, and it didn't have a great lead in, unlike last season.

Monday, February 17, 2020
8- High Times of Denver - 3.96 million viewers and 0.7 (0.721) A18-49, down two tenths from last weeks premiere to a new series low.

830- High Times of Denver - 4.13 million viewers and 0.7 (0.742) A18-49, even with the 8 o'clock episode. The series will air two more episodes next week, before settling into its permanent timeslot at 830.

Tuesday, February 18, 2020
8- Sanchez's in the Suburbs - 6.21 million viewers and 1.0 (1.013) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

830- Parkway Motel - 5.97 million viewers and 1.0 (0.967) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

9- Blended - 5.04 million viewers and 0.9 (0.866) A18-49, down a tenth from last weeks season premiere.

930- Life Lessons - 4.86 million viewers and 0.8 (0.843) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

10- TAKEN - 10.96 million viewers and 1.1 (1.084) A18-49, even with last week.

Wednesday, February 19, 2020
8- The Neighborhood - 8.85 million viewers and 2.1 (2.106) A18-49, down four tenths from last week.

9- LAPD Unit 7 - 10.01 million viewers and 1.1 (1.059) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

10- TAKEN: Phoenix - 10.20 million viewers and 1.0 (1.002) A18-49, even with last week.

Thursday, February 20, 2020
8- Mother & Daughter - 5.85 million viewers and 0.9 (0.896) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

830- Grandparents - 5.34 million viewers and 0.8 (0.835) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new low.

9- Full Time Mom - 5.97 million viewers and 0.9 (0.923) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

930- The Hughes Family - 5.14 million viewers and 0.8 (0.839) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new series low.

10- Virus - 10.13 million viewers and 3.9 (3.935) A18-49, down five tenths from last week. The season finale airs next week and looks unlikely to see a new series high for the fifth finale in a row.

Friday, February 21, 2020
8- Mind of a Hunter - 5.86 million viewers and 0.5 (0.491) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new series low.

9- Serve and Protect - 5.92 million viewers and 0.5 (0.504) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

10- Cops of Miami - 5.36 million viewers and 0.5 (0.453) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new series low (and a very ugly result).

Saturday, February 22, 2020
8- Moving Down - 1.58 million viewers and 0.1 (0.136) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

830- Asset Protection - 1.45 million viewers and 0.1 (0.125) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

9- Nowhere to be Found - 3.15 million viewers and 0.2 (0.234) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

Default Gen-TV Scorecard

A Hollywood Insider Report
---Gen-TV Scorecard: Where Gen-TV Faves Stand

It's almost March and the current TV season is only a few months away from ending, so it's time for Hollywood Insider to figure out how the standing of your Gen-TV favorites. In other words, which series are likely to return and which are headed for the toss bin.

To make it easy we've ranked them in three distinct categories: "Renewal", "Cancellation" and "50/50". Series marked as "Renewal" are likely to be renewed or have already been renewed for next season; while the opposite is true for series marked "Cancellation" and "50/50" is for series that honestly could go either way or that it's just too soon to determine. For each series we'll give a brief summary of why it is ranked that way.

For the sake of clarity, this list reflects only series currently on the Gen-TV schedule and does not include any series which are not currently airing or that are upcoming. It only includes series present on the current schedule.

Okay, lets go:

RENEWAL:

"Baker's Dozen": This series has become a bonafide success for Gen-TV after being retooled as a epic male on male romance instead of a family sitcom. It traded two female characters (and a bunch of kids) for Chris Colfer and has become one of the most sophisticated and stylish comedies on TV. It's raking in the viewers and is most likely being renewed.

"Our Pet Dragon": Moving from kid-friendly fare to a raunchy, frat-boy style of comedy has been a winning move for this show. It has a devoted and large fanbase and is almost certainly returning for another season.

"Grand Jury": This freshmen drama recently traded out Anika Noni Rose for Dennis Quaid and ratings seem stable. It is averaging more than 20 million viewers weekly and looks to be a sure-thing for a renewal.

"CIA: New York": Another freshmen drama that is generating superb numbers. It has proven itself as a series that can anchor a night, and is likely to be around another season.

"Deadly Visions": This veteran drama has already been given a multiple season renewal and is going to stay put on Gen-TV for a long time.

"Bless Your Heart": Gen-TV's freshmen comedy triumph is certain to be renewed for a second season. It boasts generous critical reviews, strong demographics and a mega-star in Cardi B!

"The Boss Lady": Kristen Wiig is a triumph in this comedy and it generates fantastic ratings. It is likely to be renewed.

"Cafe Oddity": With strong ratings (it averages just over 24 million viewers an episode) it is clearly headed for a renewal.

"Ready To Wear": This one is a no-brainer, the hilarious retail comedy is among Gen-TV's most popular series and is going to be around another season; and probably longer.

"Kate & Ali": This one is another easy answer: It will be back next season and most likely for many seasons more.

"Motherhood: The Series": We're not just being generous by saying its getting luminous reviews and excellent ratings. It's actually true! The series currently averages a 93% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79% on Metacritic. It is averaging 23 million viewers per episode and is likely to be renewed.

"Discography": This unique reality series is brand new take on a music biography series has generated acceptable ratings. It is more likely to be renewed than cancelled.

"7th Heaven": There is no way this heavenly series gets cancelled. It is a sure thing for renewal.

"Having Faith": This series is absolutely getting renewed. No question about it.

"Fugitive Recovery": This is among Gen-TV's most popular series; it is a shoo-in for renewal; but contractual negotiations could be a factor in a delayed renewal as several cast members are up for new contracts and could be asking for larger salaries.

"The Border Police": It would be a pretty big shock if this series wasn't renewed as it rates among TV's top-rated series. contractual negotiations have been ongoing for awhile and there are no signs of danger for this show.

"Cancellation":

"Severed": This freshmen comedy is already cancelled. It will not return.

"American Heroes": This limited series will not return for a second season.

"Every Other Weekend: This veteran comedy will end its run at the end of the season and will not return.

"The Truth About Birth: True Stories of Motherhood": This companion piece to "Motherhood: The Series" hasn't generated nearly the same ratings as its comedic counterpart and isn't likely to be renewed.

"Switching Places": With a nearly 40% drop in demos from last season, this reality series isn't likely to return for a third season.

"50/50":

"Roomies": It's simply too soon to make a decision on this comedy.

"Stuck In The Middle": There just isn't enough ratings data to calculate yet.

"Unemployed": Once a solid hit this series has dipped in recent episodes and may have already peaked. It could truly go either way.

"Grounded": This series is the definition of a utility player and renewal may come down to the last minute. It could go either way.

"Feds": There is a strong case to be made for a renewal, but the truth is that this series could go either way. We'll just have to wait and see.

"Boston Blues": Though it has seemingly recovered from a massive ratings loss at the start of the season, the question remains if that is enough to keep it on the schedule next season or if cancellation is the obvious answer. Either scenario seems just as likely.

Default Gen-TV Development News

A Hollywood Now Report:
---Gen-TV's 2020 Pilot Season

Gen-TV has been unusually quiet about their development cycle for the 2020-2021 TV season, with only a few minor pieces of information being released. Hollywood Now decided it was time to investigate and see what we could find out and boy did we ever gather information. What follows is the compilation of our findings after researching and interviewing Gen-TV development executives over the last six weeks.

"What We Already Knew":

We already knew that Gen-TV would be going into the 2020-2021 season without some very key players. Veteran comedies "Zendaya", "Unlikely Family", "Hart of Family", "Every Other Weekend" and "Making It Work" will all be absent from the schedule, as they have all completed their series runs. The first three finished production in 2019 and aired their last episodes in December of that year. The latter two completed production in the first-half of 2020 and will air their finale episodes in May 2020.

Also gone is veteran drama "American Family" which has been cancelled after three seasons, due to creative reasons. Another huge series, "Selling Out" will also be missing as that series moves to Stream-ME in May and will air a final season sometime in late 2020.

"Shift Towards Adult Comedy":

Since the launch of "Ready to Wear" in 2018, Gen-TV has slowly been shifting its comedy development away from "family sitcoms" and more towards comedies aimed at adult audiences. Particularly those that would appeal to the specific demographic of Females, Aged 21-45. "The key demographic we look for is females between 21 and 45 years of age, as they are likely to have the most disposable income to spend on products from our sponsors" explained Sherri Rhys, a top-level development executive within Gen-TV.

She explained further "Gen-TV's most successful comedies were historically comedies aimed at an upscale audience, usually viewers in their mid-20's to early 30's; often working professionals." "Series that follow that trend included Boyfriends, Doctor/Patient and of course, Making It Work." Those series and several other like it were very popular and generated a lot of revenue for Gen-TV; but as they aged and got cancelled they were often replaced with less expensive sitcoms; often aimed at a much younger audience. "Those sitcoms, which we internally called our TGIF knock-offs had very little support internally from executives but proved to be capable of sustaining us until we found something better." It was the launch of "Selling Out" that got executives thinking about making a shift, but with only that show and "Every Other Weekend" standing out from the pack it was a risky proposition "until 2018 when we launched Ready to Wear and Kate & Ali and both were instant successes." "That shifted the parameters and we knew we'd have to refocus our development on upscale adult comedy."

Further proving that instincts were correct, another 2018 debut "Cafe Oddity" debuted to similarly strong numbers as "Kate & Ali" and "Ready To Wear" and has maintained that success. Comedy development for Gen-TV is likely to focus on comedies featuring 20 or 30-something adults in the workplace or focusing on their personal lives. The outlier on the schedule is "Cafe Oddity" which struck a chord by featuring lead characters in their 50's and 60's; and featuring an entirely female cast. You'll likely see numerous Gen-TV pilots featuring demographics often underrepresented on TV.

"Reality TV":

A trend to look out for is that reality TV will be used to try and reach the previously unreachable demographic of Males aged 18 to 30, which hasn't always been easy for Gen-TV to reach. "Past attempts have failed in huge ways and we're always hesitant to try because it is a demographic that can be very fickle and hard to please."

One way the network has reached that demographic in recent years is through their profitable and popular reality TV franchise "High School Diaries" which chronicles a year in the life of high school students in various grades. The first installment in that series "High School Diaries: Freshmen Year" was a bonafide smash success when it debuted in January 2018 and a second installment called "High School Diaries: Sophomore Year" was able to match that popularity of the original. "We're looking at that franchise as a template for future programming and have several ideas that may work."

Reality programming has always been a struggle for Gen-TV, they've had some high profile successes, but just as many embarrasing failures along the way. "I think we've learned from our past misfires and won't be repeating those same mistakes again." The biggest reality flops Gen-TV has had were shows that "strayed too far from our demographic or just hit at the wrong time." One such series featuring Lady Gaga nearly bankrupted the company when "Search For The Next Great Monster" hit at a time that Lady Gaga's popularity was plummeting and reality competition series were reaching a saturation point with viewers; and "well nobody tuned in, and it was an expensive flop." Gen-TV didn't attempt reality TV again for several years after that and instead concentrated on sitcoms and crime procedurals.

In the last two years, reality has been a big hit for Gen-TV, with "Switching Places" hitting a high point. Gen-TV will likely be looking to replicate the success of that series.

"New Programming":

Among the high-profile pilots currently in contention for next season are "Biological", a family drama about a five strangers who discover they are siblings after taking an at-home DNA test. The pilot is from Amy Lippman and Christopher Keyser who co-created "Sisters", which is among Gen-TV's biggest hits ever. A sequel to "One of These Days", a classic Gen-TV drama is also in development and would potentially feature cast members from the original series.

A pilot called "Guest Quarters" that is set in a Youth Hostel is also in development and is said to feature "a horror inspired twist." "Snitcher" a drama about criminal informants is also in the works and so is a drama set in a Narcotics Unit of the LAPD. Drama pilots focused on US Marshalls, US Customers and a Swat Team are also in variou stages of development. Another pilot getting a lot of attention is a pilot about "a woman who finally cuts ties with her emotionally toxic family." Pilots set in a mental hospital and a conspiracy drama set in the airline industry are also hot commodities right now.

Gen-TV is said to be focusing extensively on drama and reality development this season with comedy being of lesser importance. "Gen-TV is very happy with the sitcoms they have right now, none of their sitcoms will be older than three seasons and all feel fresh and timely."

Source also tell us that "limited series" are a top priority right now as they had some success this season with "If Hillary Had Won" and "Maria's Quinceanera"; but ultimately their gold standard limited series remains "Love Affair" which finished its final season in 2019 and earned its highest ratings ever and swept the Best of TV Awards. "We're looking for series that feel fresh and innovative and have something important to say."

Gen-TV has canceled freshmen summer dramedy "Summer Share" after one season. The dramedy starring Tamera Mowry-Housley, Matthew Lawrence, Hillary Duff and Drake Bell will not return for a second season after suffering ratings losses nearly every week since it's debut.

The series debuted in June to 12.3 million viewers and a 4.4 in demos and has since seen numbers drop 6.8 million and a 2.1 in demos. Additionally, the series suffered from the worst critical reviews Gen-TV has seen in years with a score of 80% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 10% on Metacritic.

In happier news, Gen-TV is pleased to confirm they have renewed veteran anthology drama "The Hardest Goodbye" for a sixth and seventh season. Currently in its fifth season, it has averaged a strong 20 million viewers and a 5.8 in demos. It will likely return next summer for it's sixth season and the seventh likely to air in summer 2021.

Gen-TV Renewal News:
--Two Summer Series Renewed

Gen-TV is rewarding a high performing summer series, "Climb The Pyramid" with a renewal for next season. Averaging 24 million viewers and a 4.5 in demos this summer, the game show will return for a fourth season in summer 2020. Gen-TV saved the series in 2017 after it was cancelled by YTN and after some tweaks in game play, rules and the addition of new hosts it became a bonafide success story for the network.

Gen-TV is also given a rather unexpected renewal for "Soapless: Life After Daytime" which had a rocky season this summer in which ratings seriously ebbed and flowed. It will return for it's fourth season next summer as well. The reality docudrama follows the lives and careers of soap opera actors after they leave daytime or when their soap opera is cancelled. This season profiled well known soap opera actors Bree Williamson, Peter Reckell, Michael Dietz, Melissa Archer, Beth Ehlers and Alicia Minshew.

No decision has been made on the rest of Gen-TV summer programs, "Without Borders", "Summer Heat: The Resort" or "Breaking Blue" though all three are expected to be renewed a formal decision has not yet been announced.

Gen-TV Summer News:
--Network Renews Three, Cancels One

Although it is still months away, Gen-TV has made some final decisions about its remaining summer programming for summer 2020. First the bad news, Gen-TV has cancelled "Summer Heat: The Resort" a soapy anthology series that was to take on a different cast and storyline each season. However, the ratings for the show were unimpressive and it generated very little publicity for the network.

Now the good news, Gen-TV has renewed three other series for new seasons. "Atlanta Medical", "Breaking Blue" and "Without Borders" will all return. "Atlanta Medical" and "Breaking Blue" will return for their second seasons and "Without Borders", a hit reality series will return for its fourth.

"Breaking Blue" was a surprise hit last summer, averaging 22.3 million viewers per episode and generating an unexpected amount of positive press for the show which was praised for its diverse characters and sensitive portrayal of teenage issues. "Atlanta Medical" was a ratings winner, but wasn't a big critical success. It will return but is expected to undergo some casting changes. The first of which has already been announced; Priyanka Chopra will depart the series before the second season begins filming. The change is in part due to storyline needs and partly due to scheduling issues.

They join previously renewed series "The Hardest Goodbye", "Soapless: Life After Daytime", "Climb The Pyramid" and its spin-off "Climb The Pyramid: Family Edition."

Gen-TV is in the middle of starting to plan its summer schedule and a formal announcement is expected within the next two months.

Default Gen-TV Launching Late Nate Schedule

Breaking News:
A Hollywood Insider Exclusive
---Gen-TV To Join Late Night Wars

If it wasn't already a crowded field, late night is getting some new competition. Gen-TV has formally announced that starting in April they will be testing "our very first full late night schedule." Late night programming is something that Gen-TV has "toyed with in the past; trying out a show or two here and there, but not something we've ever fully committed to in the way we will be doing this year."

The network confirms that their April 2020 schedule update will include "a full line-up of late night programming, ranging anywhere between two and five hours." The exact nature of the late-night programming is still being kept under wraps until the network reveals their April 2020 schedule updates later this month. But a representative for the network says " the late night programming we have in development are from a variety of different genres and I think will be a pleasant and welcome surprise for viewers. They will offer a choice in late night that viewers haven't had before."

Official details on the late night programming will be released when the April 2020 schedule is announced later this month.

Default Jenny & Sherri Cancelled

Gen-TV Daytime News:
--Network Cancels Talk Show

Gen-TV has officially cancelled struggling daytime talk show "Jenny & Sherri" as ratings hit an all-time low in February. The freshmen talker has never caught on with the public, and recently posted a 0.04 in the important Females 18-35 demographic. That is a loss of nearly 94.5% since it launched last fall.

Starring Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd the show has struggled to find its voice and its core premise; initially avoiding political discussion the show recently started hosting roundtable discussions on political topics including vaccines and immigration and ratings tumbled. Even worse, the show garnered some of the worst reviews a daytime talk show has ever gotten with words like "stupid", "mind numbingly misinformed" and "infuriatingly ignorant" being used to describe its hosts and its messaging. A recent op-ed in the Los Angeles Times blasted the duo as "single handedly the most vapid, shallow, uninformed, willfully ignorant and disturbing liars on television" and as "outside of Fox News, the most dangerous purveyors of misinformation on television." Another reviewer likened the show to "Fake News personified and given the stamp of approval from a major broadcast network that otherwise prides itself on inclusion and progressivism."

The series is being pulled from the schedule immediately and production has been suspended indefinitely. Furthermore, in a clear and decisive move Gen-TV has also terminated its long-term contracts with both hosts stating "We are simply not interested in working with Jenny or Sherri anymore. Not in this project and not in any other projects."

Gen-TV is replacing "Jenny & Sherri" with a brand new cooking show called "Morning Bites"; which will feature "mouth watering, decadent and appetizing breakfast and brunch meals that the home cook can whip up in minutes to look like a professional chef." However, sources tell us that the daytime lineup will be moved around to allow "Morning Bites" to kick off the daytime schedule at 9am. "Family Court" will move into the 2pm timeslot vacated by "Jenny & Sherri."

In response to the cancellation neither Jenny or Sherri have issued any public statement, although McCarthy did post on her Instagram a picture of her and Shepherd on the set of the show with the caption "Missing You Already." A source close to McCarthy tells Hollywood Insider that "Jenny is very upset about the cancellation of the show, but is taking it in stride. She is a professional who has been in this business since she was in her 20's."

Truthfully, the inclusion of this show on Gen-TV was always an odd choice and it always felt like a bizarre outlier on a network that is otherwise deliberately progressive in its programming choices. It was a stark contrast to other Gen-TV daytime programs like the critically acclaimed "3Girls2Gays" which is literally centered around the opinions of twenty-something women and gay men; demographics that "Jenny & Sherri" actively seemed to repel with their regressive and uninformed stances.

---Mallory's Coming To February

First announced way back in 2018, a much anticipated "Mallory's of Jefferson County" reunion telefilm will be the marquee event for Gen-TV's February sweeps period this season. Gen-TV has set a February 11th premiere for the six-part event series which will reunite the principal cast of "Mallory's of Jefferson County" and air over six consecutive nights starting Tuesday, February 11th and concluding Sunday, February 16th, 2020.

The majority of the cast from the original series will appear in the event series; as the entire cast is contractually obligated to appear in it as part of their original contract with the series, which requires them to appear in a specific number of films following the series run.

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but sources say "It will be the wildest and most memorable Mallory's story ever."

Gen-TV News:
Scheduling News
Mallory's Pushed To April

A planned reunion mini-series for "Mallory's of Jefferson County" (the most popular show in Gen-TV history) has been pushed from a planned February launch to April. Fans were eagerly anticipating the scheduled February 11th premiere of the six-part limited series, but were confused as to what happened when February 11th came and went without it airing.

Gen-TV representatives cited "scheduling conflicts" as the reason why the premiere was delayed and confirmed to Hollywood Insider "We have moved the launch of this incredible and epic limited series event to April so that the final several episodes will air within the May sweeps period." "And believe me it is going to be worth the wait, as the producers have cooked up an absolutely unbelievable story that will leave everybody shaken to their cores."

Gen-TV is going to announcing their full April 2020 schedule within the next few weeks and "Mallory's" is likely to be mentioned heavily during that announcement.

830- High Times of Denver - 3.97 million viewers and 0.7 (0.728) A18-49, even with the 8 o'clock episode. The series will settle into its permanent timeslot at 830 next week.

9- CIA Files - 11.69 million viewers and 1.5 (1.520) A18-49, down a tenth from its last new episode in January.

10- Newsflash - SECOND SEASON PREMIERE - 5.96 million viewers and 0.7 (0.731) A18-49, down a tenth from its series premiere, but up a tenth from the season one finale in May 2019. Overall, this is a pretty mediocre performance given the awful retention from its lead in (even if they are incompatible). An 0.6 average was enough to score the series a second season, so it may be enough this time around too.
