“Love Affair: Texas Romance” (Ten Episodes) Directed By: Ava DuVernay
Directed by acclaimed auteur Ana Duvernay (Selma; When They See Us) and starring Jeremy Renner, Jamie Foxx and Kylie Bunbury the first ten episodes of the season are set in 1970’s Texas and the controversial romance between Senator Thomas Charles (Jeremy Renner); a white republican seeking reelection in the biggest district in Texas; and Amelia Bradley (Kylie Bunbury). Amelia is the black wife of Dr. Kevin Bradley (Jamie Foxx), a black democrat running against Charles on the platform of family values.

“Love Affair: Love In God” Directed By: Jodie Foster
The second half of the season (ten episodes) features a story directed by Jodie Foster featuring a very controversial romance between two nuns in a convent in 1960’s Oklahoma. This story stars Jodie Foster herself as Sister Helen Marie (Thomas) a 50-something nun who finds herself questioning her life when she meets and instantly finds herself attracted to Sister Nancy (Marwell) played by Zoey Deutch. Sister Nancy (Marwell) is a 25-year old nun who has just entered the convent after her fiancée Charlie was killed in Vietnam and she found herself despondent and penniless. The relationship begins innocently enough as Sister Helen Marie attempts to show Sister Nancy around the convent and train her for her duties as a nun, but quickly escalates into something more than friendship as the two fight an attraction. Sister Nancy is unsure of herself and if she’s just lonely from missing her fiancée Charlie. Directed by Foster, this story features a romance unlike any other and showcases the tragic consequences thereof.

Love Affair, the popular anthology program will return for it's eighth season this summer, but is that the end of the series? Chances are yes, the eighth season will probably be it's last.

Benny Portman, Gen-TV's interim Vice President spoke on this issue recently saying "We feel like eight seasons is a very respectable run and a very healthy run and that at a certain point you sort of run out of stories to tell; even in an anthology format." "It would seem unlikely that the series would continue past this summer." "That said, we aren't announcing anything official yet, and it largely depends on how viewers respond to the upcoming season."

In a related announcement, Gen-TV has confirmed that for the first time in the series history Kate Walsh will not appear on the show this season. "Despite our best efforts, we just could not find a role for Kate this season." "We have a lot of respect for Kate, but unfortunately it just didn't work out creatively." Portman said.

Casting details and announcements about this seasons theme for the series will be announced at a later date. Last season, the series told two different stories one set in Washington DC and one set in Latin America.

It's Official: "Love Affair" Canceled
---Gen-TV Drama Axed Following This Summer

First a correction, Gen-TV's "Love Affair" is returning this summer for it's seventh season; not eighth as erroneously reported earlier this year.

Now for the sad news, the seventh season will be the series final season. The network has pulled the plug on the anthology drama citing "declining ratings and high production costs." Gen-TV President Garrett Jones said when announcing this "The series was only contracted until it's eighth season anyway and we won't be losing much money by ending it a year earlier. We own the show outright so we can make any decision we want with it."

The series originally premiered on YTN back in 2012 as a period drama starring Kate Walsh and an ensemble cast. After three seasons it was cancelled by YTN when Gen-TV (who co-created and co-owned it) opted to buy out YTN's portion of the series rights and moved the series to Gen-TV. It was reworked as an anthology drama shortly thereafter with every season containing a self-contained story and a new setting. Kate Walsh appeared in every season except the upcoming season.

It has aired in syndication since 2016 and has been a moderate performer. It currently ranks as the 60th most-watched syndicated (second-run) drama on television in the USA, just after "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and just ahead of "NCIS: Los Angeles".

The decision to cancel the show has reportedly been in the works for a very long time and was made official only last week internally at Gen-TV. At seven seasons, it is leaving Gen-TV as the oldest show on the network; and one of the longest-running series they've ever had.

Another summer anthology drama "The Hardest Goodbye" has yet to hear a decision about it's fate and it's likely we won't hear anything about that until after the season is wrapped, possibly not even until next year.

Default More Pilots

Gen-TV has ordered several new pilots, all contending for slots on Gen-TV's schedule for the 2019-2020 season; and unlikely to air before mid-season (January 2020).

Here are the new crop of contenders:

---We Fell Apart/She Falls Apart (working titles): This drama pilot is for "a relationship drama following a couple; Shelby and Stephen, who attempt to rekindle their relationship following Shelby's traumatic ordeal being held hostage in an armed robbery." Gen-TV is seeking "name actors for the main couple of Shelby and Stephen." Actress/Director Helen Hunt is being brought in as the main director of the potential series and will serve as an executive producer as well.

"Pushing": This drama pilot follows three street-level drug dealers on the gritty streets of Baltimore, Maryland. It is described as "one part character drama, one part action show in which three street level drug dealers; low-level pushers become members of the most notorious drug cartel in town."

"Pushing Through" or "Pulling Through" (working titles): This pilot is for a sports themed drama following the lives of former elite athletes gravely injured and attempting to regain their lives and return to the only world they know; athletics, as they attempt rehabilitation through physical therapy.

"Late Night Snack": This pilot is for a themed movie night that also contains a cooking show. Each week Gen-TV would play a movie that during the commercial breaks would contain a host presenting a cooking show themed after the movie. Each of the cooking segments would teach the audience how to make a specific small snack they could make after the film is over. A host is being sought out.

Gen-TV has ordered several more pilots for potential series to compete for a spot on the networks schedule. Here they are:

"DEA": This is a pilot for a procedural drama following the inner workings of the New York field office of the Drug Enforcement Agency. It is being considered a spin-off of "The Border Police" and will air as a planted spin-off of that series later this summer.

"Stuck In The Middle": This pilot is for a half-hour comedy focusing on a seemingly ordinary middle class family from New England trying to work their way out of the middle class into a better way of life. It also focuses on the daily lives of the families children, one of whom is tired of being a middle child.

"Safe Places": This pilot is for a relationship drama focused on a couple Stephen and Jeremy trying to recover following a horrific hate crime in which they were victims. The series would follow their emotional and spiritual recovery as they attempt to move on from the tragedy, find closure in the legal sense and rebuild their relationship.

"Traumatic Events": This pilot is for a procedural drama which would follow the entire course of a crime or traumatic event. It would start with the crime itself being perpetrated and then would follow the course of it as each branch of emergency services takes over. The police investigate it; EMT/Paramedic triage and transport to hospital where doctors and nurses treat the victims (or in some cases the criminals) and then the justice system (lawyers, judges, etc) try the case. It would be the first series ever to follow a single case from all sides of the emergency services.

More Big Pilots Ordered:
--Gen-TV Studios News

Gen-TV Studios is going big with their latest pilot offerings; ordering two pilots which are sure to be important in their development.

The first is called "Tidal Waves" and is an epic style mini-series about a town recovering from a devastating tidal wave. Described by Gen-TV President Garrett Jones as "more akin to Treme than The Day After Tomorrow" "It follows the personal devastation that befalls members of a small community following a tragic natural disaster that changes everything. It will explore the personal, political and socio-economic issues that occur as a result of this tragedy."

The network has also ordered a pilot for "Better Days", a spin-off of Gen-TV classic "One of These Days" that would "take place in the same small town a decade later and focus on the lives of a now grown Kimberly and Megan as they deal with raising teenage children of their own." Sources tell us that both Marla Sokoloff and Lacey Chabert will appear in the pilot, but that Sokoloff is being considered the lead of this series and Chabert is likely to only recur should it go to series." Described by Jones as "A decade ago, Gen-TV was launched into the industry with One of These Days, a landmark drama that changed the face of TV and made Gen-TV a force to be reckoned with." "We will now explore the lives of two beloved characters now as grown adults raising their own teenagers and will showcase the lives of a new generation of young adults."

Though only a pilot has been ordered, insiders with Gen-TV tell Hollywood Now that "a series order seems imminent."

Gen-TV has also ordered a pilot called "Crime Lab" which is "essentially a more modern take on the CSI concept that will showcase the real work that goes on in a real police crime lab and the actual science behind it."

And lastly, Gen-TV has ordered two comedy pilots, one called "Roomies" about the lives of four twenty-somethings sharing a New York City apartment and dealing with the traumas of love, life and working in your early 20's.

Lastly, the second comedy pilot is called "Flatmates" which focuses on Three roommates in a NY apartment; all from different backgrounds. One girl is british, one is South African and one is American. It would mainly focus on the cultural differences that set them apart and the emotional bonds that keep them together.

Default Baker's Dozen Rebooting Starts

Latest Pilot News

Here is the latest and most recent development updates from Gen-TV Studios as it pertains to it's Fall 2018 schedule; which will officially be announced to advertisers on Friday, May 18th.

"A Good Ten Years":

This comedy pilot about post-college life is looking like a solid contender to get picked up. Sources tell us "Executives are in love with the script and casting has been a breeze." The pilot has completed casting, and joining previously announced leads Brent Morin, Vanessa Hudgens and Miranda Cosgrove are Andrew Lawrence; whose most recent TV Credits include a recurring role on CBS's Hawaii Five-O and guest roles on NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI:Cyber, CSI: Miami, Castle and TNT's Perception.

Also joining the cast of this sitcom is Ashley Tisdale, who's hiring completes casting for this series and lifts the cast-contingency.

"Baker's Dozen:"

Casting for the principal leads in this sitcom has been completed; with Gen-TV favorite Rider Strong (Revolving Doors) landing the male lead in this sitcom about three single parents living together in a house to raise their many children; which between the three of them equals to 10 kids; hence the title of the series.

He will be joined by Maria Canals-Barrera (Cristela, Wizards of Waverly Place) and previously announced Alyson Hannigan as the two female leads.

The series revolves around Ellie (Alyson Hannigan); a recent divorcee with five kids (four boys and a girl) who in order to make ends meet and pay the mortgage on house invites Oliver (Rider Strong); a childhood friend and recent widower with five kids (four girls and a boy) to move in and share the household expenses. They soon discover they still can't quite manage and decide to take in third roommate to cover some of the bills; and they decide on Marisol (Maria Canal-Barrera); a 50-something single mother with one son.

Most of the comedy revolves around the humorous pitfalls and triumphs of having so many people living together in a house and dealing with the realities of being a single parent. The children will play only a small role in the overall series, with most of the kid characters being played by day-players instead of series regulars. Sources say the joke will be "with some many kids living in this house how can we keep track of all of them."

With casting complete, sources say the chance of this comedy getting picked up has improved dramatically, as executives were worried about finding appealling leads. As it stands our sources indicate this is a front-runner for a series pick-up.

"Cafe Oddity":

A trio of TV Veterans have snagged leading roles in this zany comedy about a small town Texas diner filled with eccentric characters. Valerie Bertinelli (Hot In Cleveland, Touched By An Angel, One Day At A Time); Justine Bateman (Desperate Housewives; Men Behaving Badly; Family Ties) and Jenna Elfman (Imaginary Mary; Accidentally on Purpose; Dharma & Greg) will play the lead roles of the owners who recently bought the diner (named Cafe Oddity) after moving from New York to the fictional town of Patriotic, Texas.

Also joining the cast of this series in supporting roles are TV Veterans: Alexander Chaplin (Spin City); Alan Tudyk (Powerless, Suburgatory); Delta Burke (Designing Women) and Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory, Newhart, The Bob Newhart Show) as eccentric customers at the diner.

Chance of this comedy getting picked-up are at about 50/50 right now according to our sources, with competition from another comedy "Off The Wall" getting fierce; as that series, set in a high end clothing boutique in New York has cast Wendie Malick as the pretentious owner of the boutique and is courting Zooey Deschanel to play the quirky new manager of the boutique whose presence invariably livens up the entire place. Insider say that coming off a six-year run on "New Girl"; Deschanel seems hesitant to sign on for another long-term contract so they are trying to negotiate with her while also courting several other name performers for the role; including Jill Kargman (Odd Mom Out); Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live and Gen-TV's Selling Out) and recent SNL departee Vanessa Bayer.

"Dramas":

Competition is very tough among Gen-TV's drama pilots, but we can tell you that a couple pilots unlikely to get picked up include "Emergent Trauma", the proposed spin-off of "Trauma Center"; as that script hasn't come together the way executives at Gen-TV wanted and it looks like they'll be holding that one off for redevelopment.

I also wouldn't count on seeing "Mid-Century" getting picked up; that time travel drama is "deader than dead" as "development on it stalled when producers couldn't really figure out how to make the premise work."

One potential contender gaining some traction is "Crisis of Faith", a supernatural drama about a woman who believes she can talk to god. Although eerily similar to ABC's "Kevin Probably Saves The World"; sources tell us that this pilot is "much darker in tone and focuses more on the moral implications of the voices that the lead character, Faith hears; and on her moral responsobility to act on the information she receives."
Two Out at Baker's Dozen
---Network retooling sitcom

Gen-TV is retooling returning comedy "Baker's Dozen" before it returns for its sophomore season in the fall. The network is firing Alyson Hannigan and Maria Canals-Barrera and will keep Rider Strong as the male lead.

Sources tell us that they are going to be revamping the series as more of a romantic comedy more in the vein of "Who's The Boss" and are seeking a name-female actress for the female lead.

The series debuted last fall to decent numbers but quickly saw it's ratings tumble. A timeslot switch and move to a new night eventually stabilized the series.

Several name performers are being considered for this role, but no decision is available at this time. Gen-TV Reps declined to provide us with the identities of those being considered.

Gen-TV Development News:
--Networks orders even more pilots

Gen-TV Network has ordered even more pilots to contend for mid-season slots (and beyond) on their schedule. Here are the latest developments from the network:

"Bright Shining Star": This pilot is for a limited-series that would run for seven weeks and would follow the tragic story of a young starlet who upon being discovered by a famous music producer sees her life fall into shambles as she becomes more famous than she could ever imagine; and is forced to work with the monster who discovered her and slowly takes over her life.

Described by Gen-TV as "A timely mini-series focused on issues of fame, power and the very real struggles young female singers face in an industry controlled by men." Executive Produced by Ronnie Michelle Baskin, a former producer on Gen-TV's "The Mulroney Mysteries" this story is "inspired in part by Kesha's struggle with Dr. Luke and in part seeing A Star Is Born and wondering what would happen if Jackson had turned out to be a psychotic monster instead of just a drunk?"

"The Dailey Girls": This pilot is for a one-hour dramedy focused on three sisters; Lucy, Lily and Lydia Dailey as they struggle to make ends meet in 1900's Ireland following the death of their father, Liam Dailey and the conviction of their mother Meave Dailey on his murder.

"Crossing Lines": This pilot is for a period drama focused on the unlikely friendship that develops between two drastically different women. 70 year old Connie; a wealthy white widower in 1950's Georgia and Francie, a 40 year old black maid who worked for Connie's controlling; abusive father. This drama would follow the journey these two women go on as they form the bonds of friendship and navigate the social and political climate of the 1950's south. Name actresses are being sought for the two roles.

"Complete Madness": This comedy pilot focuses on the workplace adventures of four twenty-somethings trying to survive their first year after graduating college. A main plot of the show would focus on their attempts to make enough to pay off their student loans and the insane reasons preventing them from doing so.

"Out Of Your Mind": This pilot is for a half-hour family comedy focused on what happens when a workaholic dad has a mini-breakdown and is fired from his job and decides to stay home with his six kids; prompting his wife to go back to work. The series would focus on his interactions with raising his kids and his attempts to find a new career, as a stand-up comic.

"Stolen": This pilot is for a procedural drama focused on police detectives working high profile cases usually involving robbery, murder or abduction. A name cast is being sought for this series. It will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Hank Steinberg who worked together on "Without A Trace".

"Missouri Blues": The network has finally ordered a pilot for the proposed "Boston Blues" spin-off that would be set in St. Louis, Missouri. A previous attempt at a spin-off called "Boston Briefs" as abandoned by the network after viewing the finished pilot.

Default Fire at Gen-TV Studios

Breaking News:
Gen-TV Production Studios In Flames

Reports of a fire at Gen-TV Studios production facility in Los Angeles were first broadcast on Wednesday afternoon and now Hollywood Insider has all the latest information on this tragic turn of events.

A fire was reported to have started on soundstage 3F of Gen-TV's expansive production facility in L.A.; production was taking place for the summer series "Summer Heat: The Resort" and sources tell us that it spread quickly. At 934am, the remaining soundstages began evacuation procedures and the production and executive offices followed shortly after that.

By 1030am, most of Gen-TV's production lot had been hit by the fire and was declared "destroyed." Police tell us that there were seventeen people injured and six people died in the fire, mostly from smoke inhalation.

Among those injured were Gen-TV's Vice President Cynthia Simmons who is being treated for second-degree burns and a broken femer following a fall as she attempted escape. Another Gen-TV Executive Alexia Bishop-Wry was declared dead at 12pm on Wednesday.

Gen-TV's President Garrett Jones released the following statement "There really are no words appropriate to address the absolutely tragic events that took place at Gen-TV's production facilities today. We lost six of our beloved family members and even more were injured." "I am deeply mourning the loss of each and every one of our friends, including our beloved Alexia Bishop-Wry." "That said, this horrible setback will not prevent Gen-TV from conducting it's usual business. We are a brand founded on boldness, bravery and being fearless. We will continue to live those values every day."

The L.A. District Fire Marshall has said that this fire is mostly likely the result of an accident and that foul play does not appear to be a factor at all. However these findings are preliminary and a final report will take weeks, or months to complete.

Production on all of Gen-TV's series is currently suspended; with the exception of a few programs that film on Gen-TV's New York lot and several which are filmed elsewhere due to budgetary reasons.

All considered damage from the fire is said to estimate over 3.2 million dollars and will take at least six months to repair.

--Death Toll Rises; Production Halted

Following a devastating fire that destroyed Gen-TV's production facilities the death toll has risen; as seven more of the injured people have passed away. This bring the official death toll to thirteen dead and ten more injured.

Production on all Gen-TV properties is currently halted in L.A. until Gen-TV can find alternative spaces to film their summer programming. Gen-TV Vice President Cynthia Simmons is among those injured and is in Cedar Sinai's burn unit recovering; she is expected to recover but it will be a long road.

Among the losses, Gen-TV's film and TV vault was destroyed costing the company thousands of hours of archived shows and movies from it's history. Gen-TV President Garrett Jones explains "Though our library is fully digitized we have lost original masters of most of the programs and films from Gen-TV history." "It is a deeply upsetting situation. Thankfully the public will still be able to enjoy these programs because of the digital copies."

News Report:
---CBS may help out Gen-TV

Although Gen-TV continues to deal with the horrific fire that devastated their studio lot earlier this week; their may be a sliver of hope on the horizon. Gen-TV Studios is in talks with CBS and Warner Brothers Television to lease space on their lots to continue production of their programming.

Sources say that CBS is willing to lease fifteen studio spaces (and post-production spaces) to Gen-TV and that Warner Brothers is willing to lease nine spaces (minus post-production offices). This would leave Gen-TV in need of another 60+ offices and sound stages.

Sources say this lease would not be cheap and could cost Gen-TV Studios over 2 million dollars.

Gen-TV News:
---CBS Declines Gen-TV

CBS has declined to lease any space to Gen-TV to allow the network to continue production on their summer series or their fall series. Though Gen-TV executives tried to make a deal happen, CBS was unable to reach a price that worked for Gen-TV. "There is no way to make a deal with CBS." says Garrett Jones, Gen-TV's President.

Though Warner Brothers is still in talks with Gen-TV, a deal is not likely anytime soon. Production for most Gen-TV series is halted until further notice, except a few that film in New York.

A third contender, Paramount Studios is in the mix as of this Friday when they contacted Gen-TV with a potential offer, but any deal is weeks away from happening.
