I agree; he always did strike me as a nice guy, and that seemed to carry over into his role as Robby on My Three Sons. The quintessential regular guy. The age difference between him and Chip, was the same as my older brother and me, so we could identify.

'My Three Sons' Star Don Grady Dies at 68, Co-Star Mourns His Passing

June 28, 2012 03:35:43 GMT

Barry Livingston, who shared screen with Grady on 'My Three Sons', remembers his late friend as 'an inspiration to me in so many ways.'

Don Grady passed away on Wednesday, June 27 in Thousand Oaks, California. The 68-year-old actor, who played one of the sons on classic sitcom "My Three Sons" and became one of the Mickey Mouse Club's original Mouseketeers, died after a long battle against cancer.

His "My Three Sons" co-star Barry Livingston offered condolence on his Facebook. "Sad, sad day. My dear friend and TV brother, Don Grady, passed away today. He was an inspiration to me in so many ways and his impact on my life is indelible. I will miss him greatly," he wrote.

Grady appeared on numerous TV shows including "The Eleventh Hour", "The Rifleman", "The Restless Gun", "The Lucy Show", "Simon and Simon" and "Wagon Train". He pursued a musical career after "My Three Sons" ended in 1972 after its 12th season.

He released an album called "Homegrown" in 1973, and followed it up with a collection of songs about baby boomer generation in "Boomer: JazRokPop" almost 35 years later. His music was also featured in 1991 comedy movie "Switch" and served as a theme song for "The Phil Donahue Show".

Grady is survived by his wife Ginny, whom he met at Disneyland and married in 1985, as well as two children, Joey and Tessa.
Thanks for the bio; it speaks well of him. We had three boys at home, all corresponding in ages to the boys on MTS, no sisters. I was Chip's age, my younger brother was Ernie's age, and my older brother was Robby's(i.e., Don Grady's age), no sisters. We all loved the show. Don Grady will be missed. RIP.

"My Three Sons" was one of my favourite series as a child. I had only seen the colour episodes in reruns until about 10 years ago when CTS began showing the black and white episodes with Mike and Bub. The thing that surprised me most about those great early shows was how much different Robbie's character acted compared to the later seasons. He always seemed nervous, high-strung, and excitable, and he was very funny in this role. In the first 2 seasons, the funniest episodes generally involve Robbie. After meeting and marrying Katie, he was more mature, calmer, and more understanding with his brothers, although he still had his funnier moments, like the time he and Katie moved next door to Jerry "The Beaver" Mathers.

I will miss him a lot just like I miss not having to see "My Three Sons" on TV anymore because the stupid Canadian networks don't care about it. Instead I will try to find it online on YouTube and on my VHS and DVD tapes where I can enjoy it as long as I wish. My prayers go out to both his families, his brothers on "My Three Sons" and his real family who have just lost a husband, a father, and a great man. God bless you Don!
