I've been watching the half hour Gunsmoke episodes the last few weekends. They're really good. It's the first time I've seen any of them besides the pilot.

Here are my favorite western series:

1. Bonanza
2. The Big Valley
3. Gunsmoke (both the Chester and Festus eras)
4. The Lone Ranger
5. Bat Masterson
6. Stagecoach West
7. The Rifleman

I'm also a Daniel Boone fan, though it's an 18th century frontier series unlike westerns set in the 19th or later.

I voted for Gunsmoke, although I really like Bonanza. I liked the way Festus and Doc picked at one another, I thought they were great working together.

I love them all (also Maverick, Cheyenne and Rifleman), but I voted for Bonanza, probably because it's the non-kiddie western that I've loved my whole life. A bit of nostalgia swayed the vote.

I voted for Have Gun Will Travel. Richard Boon'e Paladin was the full package. IMO the writing for the show was at a higher level than Gunsmoke or Bonanza.

Gunsmoke is OK but only the older episodes. The more recent are not good.
I watched Bonanza as a kid but these days I find it totally unwatchable and fake looking.
Of the three I prefer Have Gun Will Travel. It has the best theme song sung by Johnny Western.

The Rifleman is my favorite western. I would like to watch some episodes of The Rebel cause I watched it years ago but can't recall anything but the theme song.

I also liked Texas John Slaughter and El Faygo Baca from Walt Disney and would like to watch them today for a new eval.

Spin and Marty wasn't a western but was on a ranch and I could watch those everyday and twice a day if Annette was on

I'm sure all you Gunsmoke fans know Festus has a great voice. Here is a clip of him crooning on a 1960 episode of Have Gun Will Travel

Totally agree! That rename it to Matt Dillon.

I like the tightness of the plot and the half hour length. Plus, James Arness gets to do a voice over in the beginning and end of each episode.
