The part that gets me is when he tells the rumor of him cutting her up then gives a sick twisted laughing smirk. I could never say or joke like that about my wife if she were missing or presumed dead. I also agree with the detective if my wife packed a bag there is no way I could tell you what she packed. He comes off as an arrogant jerk but like many abusers that's how they operate. They are psycho and think that they can get away with anything.

The fact that he was able to NAIL what items she had taken really sealed it for me. My husband is a very detail-oriented guy, but if you asked him what clothes I was wearing or what items I took, he wouldn't be able to say anything other than, "She always wears a purple jacket. Her contact lenses are missing, as is her iPad." Don't even get me started on our daughter. He'd say, "I don't know what she was wearing. Probably a Dora shirt."

To be SO detailed is a bit chilling.

I totally agree. I pay attention to things very closely when I'm focused. But I don't focus on my wife's wardrobe contents to that extent and what normal husband would. I could say what she wears often and maybe if I'm lucky could figure out one or two items missing but even that's a stretch. The fact that he knew everything she packed doesn't show that he's a caring husband that pays attention to his wife it further highlighted his possessive abusive tendencies.

I don't know about the husband. He doesn't seem the smartest tool in the shed. Well that's the way he comes across in the segment. I found his Facebook page and he seems to be living his life without a care in the world. If he didn't do it directly i definitely think he knows who did. I personally wouldn't be able to look my children in the eye if i knew what i had done!

hes also liked a "Donald Trump For President" page

anyway it was clear as day that he didn't have a care in world about her. he had a nonchalant attitude about the whole thing, he sold her car 2 weeks after her disappearance aswell as packed up all her stuff.

reasons i think hes guilty and that she didn't pull a "gone girl" is his accuracy on the contents of the suitcase as if he packed it himself and the babysitters account that she never saw/heard Christi come in that night.

I think Christi was drunk and spilled the beans about the other man and the divorce and he flew into a rage. i would guess he strangled her then placed her in the trunk and returned home then maybe later that night or next day he disposed of the body and suitcase.

I thought of alternative theory where she told him about the other man/divorce but she made it home. maybe he hit her and busted her lip which could explain the small trace amounts of blood and maybe thats why she dodged the babysitter that night.

later that night he kills her in her sleep. i would guess he smothered her with a pillow, which would be a quiet and clean murder then puts her in the trunk of the car. the next morning he drops the kids off at grandma's to go bury her. i think this lines up with what detective said about nobody in town saw him "searching".

Just saw this segment tonight and he goes to number 1 for the most obviously guilty spouse in UM ever.
Sometimes when I see cases when the killer, who is generally the husband, gets convicted I wonder how did they think they could get away with it. Well this is the counterexample.
Even the cop who was interviewed was all but saying he did it.
It's so sad it's over 30 years now and still nothing, it seems we will never fully know the details of how he did it.

I detest this guy but one thing for certain is that he's no dummy. He pulled off the perfect crime (so far). This is one of those cases where there are no other witnesses since he did it all on his own. And he'll never talk. I can only hope something similar befalls to him one day

Watching this guy's interview in the segment, he sounds like a MAJOR dummy, and that's being generous.

That's what makes him getting away with it all the more infuriating.

He may "sound" and look like a moron but this guy didn't make the mistakes most killers do. ZERO witnesses. Doesn't talk much, doesn't get riled when questioned. Doesn't change his story. Even the smartest killers flub up on most of those.

Great work on this. This one has always been near the top for me in getting me in my emotions, both anger (at mark) and very sad for christy.

it is frustrating that he was informed of her attorney visit. Goth. police official wtf? surely he was not aware of how potentially fatal the abuse was? so the people helping mark were probably only foreseeing a child custody battle? Or did they know he was physically assaulting her and did not care? I agree 100 with your final thoughts on the article. there's no doubt in my mind that he killed her. and I think it was premeditated if you consider his actions before and after. it is chilling to hear that he choked her and stabbed a wall.

Oy, vey... Well, I think we can say this is one time when UM didn't go out of their way to make the accused look more guilty than he was -- Mark did that all on his own. After reading your blog, they probably painted him in an even better light. What an absolute piece of hot garbage this guy is. Ugh.

After reading your blog post, I'm struck by a few things:
1) How truly YOUNG Christi was -- I didn't realize this when I first watched UM but seeing the pictures you posted, she was almost a child herself
2) The depth of the abuse was far worse than what UM portrayed -- Mark is a serial domestic abuser and he obviously abused Christi for a long time
3) She took multiple steps to get out of this relationship -- too bad it was a few days too late
4) There is no way in hell she would have taken off without her children (or at the very minimum, a plan to get them back ASAP)
5) Yet another case of crappy small town police tipping off the abuser and not only doing nothing for the victim, but making things worse for her. I hope that police chief realizes he has blood on his hands over this.
6) Mark's story of the final night is ridiculous -- the fact that he detailed all of the things she took with her absolutely seals the deal. That guy is as dumb as a box of rocks and for him to be able to detail every item she took with her only shows that he packed the bag.
7) As for the blood under the carpet, Mark said "menstrual blood" -- does he realize the average menstrual blood lost is small (2 to 3 tablespoons) over 4-5 days? (Thank you, CDC for the facts.) Plus, what woman sits on carpet and bleeds out long enough to make a stain that big?

Mark is just a big, dumb bully. He terrorized this poor woman and abused the hell out of her. I'm not saying she was perfect as I wasn't there, but she surely didn't deserve the physical (and likely mental) abuse she endured. My guess is that they were both really immature and didn't know how to function well together. I feel horrible for her kids and family. I can't imagine the heartache.

My best hypothesis on what happened to Christi is that she went out with Mark as part of getting her kids back. They probably argued on the way home from the bar. I would guess this was over the kids but it wouldn't be out of the range of possibility that Mark demanded sex from her too. In any case, the argument escalated and he probably started beating her. He either beat her to death and/or strangled her. I'm not sure if he hid the body temporarily and finished the job the next day, or if he did it all that night. But he is absolutely guilty of this in my mind. He is just a disgusting human being.
