Default Robert Foulk as Roy Trendell / Mr. Wheeler

Character actor Robert Foulk only made 15 appearances on Green Acres, but he ranks as one the funniest residents in all of Hooterville, for my money.

Whether he's giving Oliver a hard time as the irascible Roy Trendell,or making life miserable for Oliver and Eb as the equally irascible Mr. Wheeler (the father of Eb's girl,Darlene Wheeler, portrayed by the lovely Judy McConnell),he supplies comic gold every time he's on screen. He really stands out in the 6th season episode,"Enterprising Eb",when Oliver,Lisa, and Eb go to the Wheeler house for dinner. Some great exchanges between Oliver and Mr. Wheeler ensue."The Engagement Ring" follows that episode, and it's also ripe with some great moments.Of course,Foulk started out as Roy Trendell, the man that never showed Oliver an ounce of respect (but was always so nice to Mrs. Douglas,of course!),and the guy that turned over The Hooterville Phone Company to Oliver.

There were so many great "townspeople" in Hooterville that Foulk ended up being sorely underused (as was Kay E. Kuter as Newt Kiley),which makes his relatively few appearances all the more comically precious.

I agree. He was funny!! He didn't have a country/ southern accent though. He sounded like a New Yorker. Same as Alf , the construction guy, he sounded like a New Yorker too. That was the charm of green Acres, things didn't have to make sense!

In the episode 'The Picnic" which was just on yesterday, Mr. Wheeler wasn't played by Robert Foulk. Mr. Wheeler was played by Larry D. Mann. And Eb's girlfriend wasn't named Darlene Wheeler she was Linda Wheeler, played by Maggie Mancusso. She was cute with her blonde pigtails and her accordion ! It was a funny ep. Oliver wanting a quiet little picnic, just he and Lisa and the whole town ends up tagging along! I liked Robert Foulk better as Mr. Wheeler though, and The Ziffels weren't in this ep. either, I missed them, they always make for some funny scenes in the show. Other than that is was really funny!
