I like this suggestion, especially considering his presence during Natalie Wood's disappearance/death.

That being said-- at this point, he's made a career of kinda making fun of himself and the way that he speaks. I don't think he would be as iconic as Robert Stack. It would just kinda be goofy. Or maybe that's just me. I can't stop picturing him saying, "There's an unsolved mystery out there... and the answer is more cowbell."

Have we thrown out Sam Waterston as a name before? I think he'd be great. Before his death, Jerry Orbach would have been a solid choice, too...

I actually prefer Amazon Prime streaming to Netflix, so I'm super excited about this! As others have said, the savings on shipping is worth it, but Amazon has really gone out of their way in the last couple of years to be competitive with Netflix, which is a good thing because Netflix's model seems to be: promote only our own stuff, add as little movies as possible.

Amazon Prime streaming is worth it because you get nearly all of the HBO stuff (minus Game of Thrones), FX shows (Justified, The Americans), older stuff like NYPD Blue and The X-Files, and you get way more movies being added then what you'll find on Netflix. If you have a Hulu account, you'll notice a lot of overlap with Amazon Prime, so that will give you an idea of what's on there.

All that to say: I'm really excited about this because I primarily use Amazon, so I'm glad that they continue to be aggressively seeking content like this for their streaming service.

When I think of Robert Stack, I think of a pretty imposing dude with a very distinct voice who played some tough guy roles in his prime. The perfect no-nonsense type of man to host a show like this. Dennis Farina had no chance to stack (see what I did there?) up to that. His smart-aleky Chicago accent along with the plethora of silly comedy roles he played throughout the years just never made me take him seriously as the host of UM. When I think of modern guys that could potentially fill that role and be taken seriously, I can only come up with three legitimate candidates. I'm not considering A-List type actors because as much we love UM, nobody that stars in 100 million dollar budget films would ever take the job. Having said all that, my three favorite legitimate candidates would be:

1. Keith David
2. Dennis Haysbert
3. Bill Duke

All are imposing figures standing above 6' tall, all with unique voices and all have played plenty of tough guy roles. Those would be my top three choices of people they could actually get if they wanted to. I don't think anybody could ever possibly live up to Robert Stack as the host of UM, but if they actually were determined to give it another go, those are my guys.

I'm veering way off topic here, so I will also add that Amazon Prime is amazing. Even without the streaming video and music, it is worth it for the free, two day Prime shipping on the vast majority of everything in the store. The fact that they're adding the classic Stack hosted UM episodes to the library soon for no additional charge is just the proverbial icing on the cake.

It's not really "free" shipping if you're paying for a membership.

Fair point. But if you use Amazon frequently enough, it definitely more than pays off.

Amazon's shows don't match Netflix but I've really enjoyed The Man in the High Castle and Bosch.

I like Christopher Walken a lot but him hosting would be too unintentionally funny and despite stuff like UFO's and ghosts, that's not something you want when talking about fugitives and lost loves.

I think DallasTexan beat me to it, but welcome!

I completely forgot about Dennis Haysbert. He would be awesome. Great voice. If only we could yank him away from Allstate....

Since we have totally gone OT... :-)

I definitely agree Haysbert would be a great choice, but my vote has already been cast for Liam Neeson. I can already hear him- "You el sickos will pay"

Liam Neeson would actually be pretty good with his "Taken" tone, but I doubt he'd sign on to a show like UM.

Agreed. He's way too big of a star which is why I didn't even consider him.

amazon prime is available in the UK, but I have not used it for streaming. In regards to apple which is what I use....I still yet have to get a UK apple account. Right now I get amazon video on my apple account that is linked with my USA app store. eventually I will get the UK app store, but you have to switch back and forth in your accounts.

that's kind of how I feel. yes it does cost about 10$ per month(which is about what Netflix charges no?

but shipping adds up. If you combine the rush deliveries and the streaming of your favorite show(s) it comes out to a great value. it makes holiday shopping so much easier.

Yeah I feel the same way. I started viewing the farina episodes this morning.

but the 2 day shipping is amazing. and they do a 30 day free trial for those that may be on the fence about paying the member fee.

I'm loving this thread...if you can't tell.

as far as a revival I agree with this. I think the core of UM fans(like all of us here) are going to be very partial to the original show. hence the disappointment with the last failed revival...but that can be its on thread/discussion point.. because there are a lot of things that were done wrong.

if there is to be a successful revival they have to make a new one that draws a new audience, but one that reaches out to the original audience as well. that would be rather difficult considering the devotion to RS and the original theme(s). Unfortunately it may not be possible. But I will settle for what we have assuming the RS version is indeed coming back to circulation.
