If law enforcement officials were correct, in that Alicia's killer was the same man who was having women pull over to the side of the road by lying to them and saying that their car had sparks flying, then I'm shocked that it was never solved. There were multiple eyewitnesses and I would assume, descriptions of his vehicle(s) by at least a few of them.

After committing the murder, the suspect may have sold his car and moved. Or it's possible he was driving a good distance to pull these stunts off so he wouldn't be recognized in his own county. He may have steered clear of the area for a long time for fear of being recognized.

I just re-watched this case and read about suspect Darrell Rice. IMO, he seems like a good suspect in the Route 29 Stalker case and Alicia's murder:

- The woman who was attacked by the stalker and broke her ankle identified Rice as her attacker
- Rice was charged with this attack and later took an Alford plea
- Rice was charged and convicted in another attack on a woman in Shenandoah National Park a year after the Route 29 cases
- In a police interview, Rice claimed that he had a "rage against women" that sometimes erupted while he was on the highway and that he liked to "run women off the road" while on Route 29. When asked what he did after that, he said he would "just keep going"
- According to his employment records, Rice was off of work on all but one of the days that the 18 women were stopped by the Route 29 stalker
- In 1996, Rice's father lived in a house that was very close to Route 29
- Rice also drove a blue Chevy pickup truck that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle
- Other than his age, Rice fit the description of the Stalker; he also looks similar to the composites
- Almost all of the stops by the Route 29 Stalker occurred in an area close to Rice's father's home; Alicia's body was also found not too far from the home

Rice does bear a resemblance to the composite sketches of the suspect seen with Alicia that day.

Yeah, really. That's some masterful detective work. This is one that I always thought was very solvable and hopefully it is.

Pretty much sealed it up IMO. Wonder if authorities could ever connect him to the case (definitively prove he did it) by DNA?

That is what I have always wondered. It just seems like law enforcement botched this investigation somewhere along the way

Since the posting to YouTube, I had a chance to watch this case and it's definitely one of those that I can't forget. For one, because of how premeditated and cunning these abduction attempts were.

Whoever this person was really must have spent a lot of time plotting this. I believe that's at least one of the reasons this case wasn't solved—abducting women on a highway who are traveling long distances doesn't carry the inherent risks of typical abductions in familiar environments and non-mobile circumstances. He was probably from out of the area too, using the road as another advantage.

Also, the composite of this guy is just creepy. So was the actor.

I still hope for justice for Alicia. I wonder if her husband ever remarried and how he is doing in recent years.

Found this while searching Darrell David Rice:

https://fdprc.capdefnet.org/sites/cd...ce_-_wd_va.pdf

It appears the crimes he committed were sexual in nature. He had a hatred of women in general, and had a pattern of stalking, harassing, and assaulting women, both physically and sexually. If the trial went ahead, the state was prepared to seek the Death penalty, but unfortunately I guess there was not enough evidence.
