Default What's with the trend of animal shows?

I'm noticing a big fad with animal shows and I want to know what the reason is? Because ever since BBC America debuted the series Planet Earth I've noticed animal shows are now hugely popular. Is it because people like animal shows for educational purposes or is it because there's something about animals that people find exciting to watch? Because ever since the series Planet Earth debuted BBC America launched a whole bunch of Planet Earth sequels and now BBC America has a whole hour on weekends devoted to animal shows called Wild Weekends with shows with titles such as The Lifecycle Of The Zebra or Lions In The Wild to A Day In The World Of Leopards How A Leopard Family Survives and I can say that animal shows are now being a trend in TV and it seems that other channels are copying BBC America's animal shows to score big ratings. Back in the day there was animal shows such as Nature on PBS and Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom that showcased the many types of wild animals around the world that made them enjoyable to watch. I do wish that sea animal shows could be seen rather than wild animal shows because I find sea animals to be really relaxing to watch and a show about sea animals would be worth seeing

Other animal shows of the past that come to mind are Animal World, that was hosted by Bill Rurrad, Last of the Wild with Lorne Greene and Wild Wild World of Animals with William Conrad.

The E/I animal shows on weekend mornings are mostly good. I watch them when football is off-season, or when I can't find a good movie to watch.
