Default Italian miniseries that resembles FOL's premise

This italian miniseries, Le ali della vita (The Wings of Life), consists of only two seasons, each with two one-hour episodes. Its first season particularly resembles FOL's premise, a mentor and her girls. The series tells the story of Rosanna, a music teacher in a catholic female boarding school. Rosanna meets all these girls with a different background and tries to help them, just like Mrs. Garrett does with the girls. There are the overweight girl, the tomboy girl, the rich and spoiled girl, the gossipy girl. The story, even the title, resembles FOL and Dorothy too.

Recap from IMDB:
End of the 50s: Rosanna accepted a job as a music teacher for a convent boarding school. Her happy, understanding ways and unconventional teaching methods and deep love of music soon win her the hearts of her girl pupils. Vithold, a nice young doctor, is also fascinated by Rosanna and gradually manages to convince her of his deep feelings for her. Rosanna encounters rejection and hatred from Sister Alberta, the Mother Superior, who has a deep belief in strict discipline and order, as well as from her close associate Sister Federica, who is severe with the girls to the point of inhumanity. Rosanna is blamed for all problems relating to the girls but she doesn't give up. Whatever trouble her charges are in, she stands by them. After one distraught schoolgirl makes a suicide attempt, Rosanna blames the Mother Superior for it in a fierce exchange, and then has to leave the school. But the Bishop has meanwhile realized that Sister Alberta's education methods are no longer acceptable and Rosanna is rehabilitated!

Another similarity: this series suffered a Cast Purge between the two seasons. Only 4 main cast members appeared in the new season. Other 2 actresses, regular characters in the first season, appeared as guest stars.
