Default “In the Heat of the Night” is getting another TV remake

“The Help” writer/director Tate Taylor and “Fargo” producer Warren Littlefield are developing the project for MGM TV, set in the present day and based on the 1967 film.

I hope it fails. No other version will ever top the original series. I wish these people would stop trying to recreate these classic shows.

I agree. Stop with all these remakes. So many of them just can't hold a candle to the originals. When will they learn????

Default "In the Heat of the Night" project goes to Showtime

Showtime Eyes 'In the Heat of the Night' Series From Tate Taylor & MGM TV
by Nellie Andreeva

In the Heat of the Night, a present-day drama series based on the 1967 Oscar-winning MGM feature, has been put on fast-track development at Showtime.

The project, written and directed by Tate Taylor, writer and director of The Help, and director of the James Brown biopic Get On Up, was put together by the Fargo team of MGM TV and producer Warren Littlefield.

I've learned that Showtime has ordered multiple scripts, with the idea to bypass the pilot stage and go straight to series, contingent on script approval.

Described as an exploration of character and race set in modern-day Mississippi, the series is executive produced by Taylor, who hails from Mississippi; Littlefield, who, as an NBC executive developed the movie's previous series adaptation, the 1988 drama starring Carroll O'Connor and Howard E. Rollins Jr.; as well as The Helps' John Norris, with the Littleton Co.'s Ann Johnson serving as producer.

I think that it could work. The Mad About You reboot and the Will and Grace reboot were fantastic.
