Default Is Netflix's algorithm to blame for Tuca & Bertie's cancelation?

https://www.dailydot.com/upstream/ne...s-tuca-bertie/

Fans of the animated series allege that Netflix didn't promote the show enough, especially to viewers of BoJack Horseman. (Tuca & Bertie creator Lisa Hanawalt has been a big part of BoJack.) "Over the complaints from all these people, a pattern starts to emerge: Netflix appears to put a lot of effort into promoting a small number of its original shows but next to none for most of them," says Alex Dabley. "New shows and creators are lucky to get a single tweet from Netflix’s official Twitter for promotion. But shows like Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, and stand-up specials are given marketing campaigns, a space on every users’ home screen, and auto-playing previews, regardless of the viewers’ feedback."

Tuca & Bertie's cancelation stings so hard because it could only exist on a platform like Netflix

"Before streaming networks became par for the course, there was no way a uniquely wild show like this one would ever be greenlit or have the chance to grow," says Caroline Framke. "How frustrating, then, to watch as Netflix invests millions upon millions in more traditional programming while treating something like Tuca & Bertie as an experiment rather than the innovative future of television it could be." Framke adds: "It’s also telling that Tuca & Bertie’s wings got clipped too soon while the show’s creative cousin BoJack Horseman prepares to drop a sixth season. BoJack is incredibly smart and strange in its own way, especially as it shares an affinity for anthropomorphic protagonists thanks to (Tuca & Bertie creator Lisa) Hanawalt’s enormous influence. But it’s also about a misanthropic (horse)man and his entertainment industry friends (and enemies) struggling to remain relevant in Hollywood — an extremely well-trod narrative path about people who are generally way overrepresented in media. Tuca & Bertie, by contrast, focused on thirtysomething women with thirtysomething problems in a way that feels genuinely new." ALSO: Tuca & Bertie felt like an extension of the perspective BoJack Horseman Season 5 was championing, which makes its cancelation even more puzzling.
