I watched all the big ones back in the 80's and my favorite was Knots Landing. I always thought it was more realistic despite a lot of the over-the-top plots because not everyone was super-duper wealthy.

I also liked Berrenger's but that one didn't last long.

My mother loves, loves Dallas. Its a good show. I wonder why they are not on anywhere. They aired episodes on CMT on Jan. 1, 2011 and then that was it. Very strange. My favorite is Beverly Hills 90210. I've watched it so often I can probably recite some of the episodes word for word. I also liked Melrose Place.

I love your Avatar! That's Erika Slezak as Niki Smith right?

Knots was my favorite as well. Loved me some Gary and Valene along with Patricia Williams (in the later seasons).

Who was Berringer? The actor in Picket Fences?

Berrenger's was a short-lived 80's primetime soap about a department store:

Oh, and I also forgot Twin Peaks. It got too weird at the end but it was still pretty original for its time. The theme song is absolutely gorgeous.

Dallas aired on Soapnet for quite a few years. It's not airing anywhere else now though. It's returning as a new series this summer on TNT. I liked 90210 during the HS years. Melrose Place was my favorite show of the 1990's.

I enjoyed Knots too, specially in the early years. I didn't watch it in the last 2 or so years. I remember a scene in the early years with Gary going thru
detox and the scene with him going thr withdrawals was so graphic, as least it was to me, that it made me shiver. I felt Ted should get an emmy for the portrayal.

My favorite prime-time soaps were and still are:
Dallas
Dynasty
Falcon Crest
Flamingo Road

In addition, if you look at present day shows I would add Desperate Housewives and Revenge.

I always considered the 1999-2002 NBC drama Providence as a primetime soap, so I'm adding it to the list. It's also where Jon Hamm got his big break.

Knots Landing was also my favorite. Each week I could hardly wait to see what mischief & mayhem Abby would cause.

Dallas was my second favorite.
