"Smoke from a Distant Fire" - Sanford/Townsend Band

One of my favorite songs from the 70's and I only caught this just a few minutes ago while lying in bed listening to it. I even Googled the lyrics to make sure I was right.

Actual line is From the Smoke of a Distant Fire.

You left me here on your way to paradise
You pulled the rug right out from under my life
I know where you goin' to I knew when you came home last night
'Cause your eyes had a mist from the smoke of a distant fire

Lord, I was stung shoulda' seen it come a long time ago.
When I realized the reality gave me a role
If things are the same then explain why your kiss is so cold
And that mist in your eyes feels like rain on the fire in my soul

This lying, and cryin', is upsettin' and gettin' ya no where
It don't stack up, so slack up and pack up
I just don't care
Don't let the screen door hit you, on your way out.
Don't you drown when your dream boat runs onto the ground

I'd just like to know do you love him or just making time
By filling his glass with your fast flowing bitter-sweet wine.
He'll taste the aftertaste when you come home late some night.
With your eyes all a mist from the smoke of a distant fire.

Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire.
(Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire)
Girl your eyes have the mist from the smoke of a distant fire.
(Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire)
Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire.
(Mist in your eyes from a distant fire)
Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant
A distant fire

This song title is half and half.

Crazy In The Night (Barking At Airplanes) by Kim Carnes.

Yes the words crazy in the night are heard several times in the song, but the words in parentheses barking at airplanes are never mentioned anywhere in the song. So I have no idea why the song is subtitled that. Although the song is off of her album also titled Barking At Airplanes so that probably has something to do with it but it's just weird those words are never mentioned in the song at all.

Threnody by Frida (Anni-Frid Lyngstad one of the members of the Swedish supergroup ABBA). I just found out about this song yesterday when Roxette's Per Gessle posted a YouTube link to it on Facebook.

The song has an interesting background. First of all, "threnody" means a hymn, song, or poem of mourning for somebody that has died and is usually about or dedicated to them. I hadn't heard of the word before and had to look it up.

This particular one was written as a poem by American writer and poet Dorothy Parker who died in 1967. Apparently Frida is a reader of Parker's works and is a big fan of hers. She was making her first solo album in the early 80s and asked Per Gessle, who at the time was still the lead singer of his first band Gyllene Tider (Golden Times) to write music for Threnody. Which he did and she recorded it for the album, his melody is quite lovely and enjoyable really. Per Gessle's band Gyllene Tider had only recorded a couple of albums at that point and wasn't really known outside of Sweden. Gessle of course would go on to much bigger success with Marie Fredriksson as Roxette after they released their debut album in 1986. I don't know if Threnody was released as a single and I think it's one of those songs you can make up your own meaning to but after listening to it I really like it. And the word threnody is never mentioned in the song. Might be the only time a well known dead American writer and a Swedish pop star have "collaborated" on a song together LOL.

Music I bought Pink Floyd's "The Wall" Lp in 1980 & I caught this for the first time today.

Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd

Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better make your face up in
Your favorite disguise.
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes.
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart.
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past.
With your nerves in tatters
When the conch shell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door.
You'd better run.

Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run,
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better run all day
And run all night.
Keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside.
And if you're taking your girlfriend
Out tonight
You'd better park the car
Well out of sight.
'Cause if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks,
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box.
You better run.

"Hey, open up!"
"Hammer, hammer"

The first line of the song is "He don't love you like I love you;" Tony Orlando's cover, I believe, used that as the title.
