Default Rel co-creator Kevin Barnett dies at age 32 while vacationing Mexico

The cause of the comedian and TV comedy writer's death is unknown at this time, reports Deadline, which adds that he was believed to be 32. Barnett created the freshman Fox sitcom with Lil Rel Howery and Josh Rabinowitz. Before Rel, Barnett was a series regular on MTV2's Guy Code and was a writer for comedies including Broad City and The Eric Andre Show. Barnett's last Instagram post was from just two-and-a-half days ago.

Comedy world mourns Rel co-creator Kevin Barnett

Lil Rel Howery has yet to comment on the sudden death of Barnett at age 32 while vacationing in Mexico, but fellow comedians expressed sadness over his passing. "Kevin Barnett was an incredible comedian and writer, contributing to Broad City, the stand-up community and beyond. He’ll be greatly missed," tweeted Comedy Central. Former SNL star Brooks Wheelan added: "He was the nicest/funniest/meanest/best friend a person could ever hope to have."

Lil Rel Howery mourns the loss of fellow Rel co-creator Kevin Barnett

"I was trying to figure out what to say but I can’t I’m truly heartbroken by this and just really hurt as the hours pass," the Rel star wrote on Instagram last night. "So gifted and so dope and a true friend!!!! I don’t know what else to say this is crazy to me!!!!" In another Instagram post this morning, Howery wrote that Barnett "was brilliant and was a very hard worker...Kevin was somebody I would always give sh*t to because it was fun and funny plus he had the same crazy sense of humor... Over the years we would have some hysterical dope convos and exchange crazy stories... I can’t stop crying on this plane it’s really starting to hit me that he is actually gone... At 32 he accomplished so much in this business and was respected by many... Rest In Peace my brother and my friend... Thank you for the last 6 years of helping make my dreams come true man."
