"Polythene Pam" by the Beatles

Correct lyric: "She's the kind of a girl who makes the News Of the World."
I heard: "She's the kind of a girl who makes good use of a whirl."

And even after I learned the correct lyric - and heard the News Of the World reference in the Pretenders' "Back On the Chain Gang" - I had no idea that it referred to a (now-defunct) British newspaper.

Music We Didn't Start the Mondegreens!

Here are all of the misheard lyrics I heard in Billy Joel's list song "We didn't Start The Fire," with the correct words:

Misheard lyric: "Satayana, good bye."
Correct lyric: "Satire to go by."

Misheard lyric: "Allan Carr" (the name of a movie producer).
Correct lyric: "Malenkov" (Stalin's would-be successor as leader of the U.S.S.R.).

Misheard lyric: "Alabama cruise chest."
Correct lyric: "Alabama, Khrushchev."

Misheard lyric: "It started with a homicide."
Correct lyric: "Starkweather homicide."

Misheard lyric: "Hey, old man Kennedy."
Correct lyric: "Payola and Kennedy."

Misheard lyric: "Listerine, Allison?"
Correct lyric: "Liston beats Patterson."

Misheard lyric: "Rock and roll a color war" (I thought it had something to do with allegedly racist lyrics in Guns 'n' Roses' "One In a Million").
Correct lyric: "Rock and roller cola wars."

And, when Billy Joel sang "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me," I thought he was singing, "You can't get the sound from a story in a magazine; hey, that's your average team!" In fact, he was singing, "You can't get the sound from a story in a magazine . . . aimed at your average teen."

Jimmy Buffett's "Mele Kalikimaka":
Misheard:
"'Mele kalikimaki' is the wise way to say 'Merry Christmas'..."

Actual line:
"'Mele kalikimaki' is Hawaii's way to say 'Merry Christmas'.."

I forgot another misheard lyric from "We Didn't Start The Fire" . . . when Billy Joel sang about Nasser and Prokofiev (Egyptian President Gamal Adbel Nasser and Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev), I thought he was singing, "Nasser at the coffee bar."

It's funny people think that Elton John sings "Tony Danza" in the song Tiny Dancer. Obviously when the song came out in the early 70s Tony Danza wasn't even famous yet!

Ed.
And in "Philadelphia Freedom," "eyes of the ones" sounded to me like he was signing "Eisenhower." Go figure.

In Billie Jean it sounds like Michael Jackson is singing

" The chid is not my son" instead of "The kid is not my son"

Michael Jackson's "Beat it", as a 7 year old I didn't know what the word funky was and so well I thought Michael was saying the F-word......you get the picture.

Misheard lyric: "Showin' how f****, strong it's your fight"
Correct lyric: "Showin' how funky, strong it's your fight"

Some people thought they hear Michael Jackson sing "The chair is not my son;" David Letterman made fun of that.
