By the way, Family Matters was not a spin-off!

Actually, Family Matters is a spin-off from "Perfect Strangers" because Harriette first appeared as a witty elevator operator on that show. But, in that same sense, "The Andy Griffith Show" is a spinoff from "The Danny Thomas Show" since there is an episode where Danny gets arrested in Mayberry that aired prior to the premiere of the first season.

Aren't most spinoffs a result of "character spinoff"? Laverne & Shirley spun off from Happy Days as a result of the girls appearing on a few episodes. The same thing happened with Mork as well. You would consider those series to be spinoffs, wouldn't you? Even if they're not characters who were originally cast members of the show, they still spun off from their single appearances.

You come to think of it, you're absolutely right. When I think of spin-offs, I often think of main characters. For instance Flo fromAlice ! Sure, I agree with you now.

Yeah, Florida Evans worked as a maid on Maude and then they decided to make a spin-off show about Florida and her family.

My favorite spin-offs are Threes A Crowd, Living Dolls, Just The Ten of Us, Joanie Loves Chachi, Gloria, Flo, Day By Day & Sanford.

Mine HAS to be Perfect Strangers. Loved the physical comedy, but also the moral at the end of each episode.

Go Balki and Larry!!
