Oh yeah, "Hotel Am Letzten Kliff".

A few clips are on youtube. It was made for RTL who then never used it.

In an interview, Cleese said it was the only one that he thought was any good. And I can sort of see how it might work. Germans are sort of repressed in their emotions, like Basil.

I THINK they made 11 episodes, guess which one they left out, but they never showed them.

By the way Russian immigrants who descended from Germans 200 years ago are a phenomenon there. So it's probably the best "translation" for Manuel.

What went wrong with NBC's version of Coupling was that the writer, Stephen Moffat, didn’t understand American audiences and the series cast a bunch of virtually unknown actors (Rena Sofer and Lindsay Price were arguably the biggest actors among the cast) in roles that really should have been given to television veterans.

Well, that sounds like a matter of opinion, if you don't mind me saying so.

Re the actors, what would be the advantage/disadvantage?
And, with every remake, well the more you change it the more you risk losing what made it good in the first place.

But I haven't watched that much of that particular remake myself, so I can't make that call.
