Lacey,

I never had anything against your mother and I still don't. Her beef was with MY mother who, I never made out to be a saint. Trust me, my mother is FAR from perfect but I do know that she loved my father.

I'm 31 years old now but when everything went down, I was a young child. The last time I saw my dad, I was 9 years old. He died when I was 12. All I ever said was even though she didn't like MY mom, she shouldn't have taken it out on ME and I should've have been allowed to pay last respects to MY dad at HIS funeral. I didn't even know where he was buried until 11 years after he died.

I don't know why Sean would lie and say it but, I swear on MY son's life that I NEVER said, "If my dad wasn't with Pam, he'd still be alive."

I have no doubt that your mother is a loving, devoted mother to all of you and I'm glad that you have her in your life. And, I am truly sorry that she lost my father and was left to raise her kids alone.

I'm also glad that you have your brothers, my half-brothers in your life. I'm actually jealous of that because I grew up an only child on my mom's side and always longed for a relationship with them. That's why in my adult hood, I reached out.

Like I said, I don't know why Sean would say that unless he got something that I said my MOM said twisted and thought I said it but, I can assure you, I did not. My mom can be the biggest bitch, ever. I don't blame your mom for hating her. Me.....I'm not a hateful or spiteful person; just a grown woman who misses her daddy.

I wish nothing but the best for all of you. And, tell your mother I never believed the stories my mom told me about her, honestly. I just wish they would've known back then what they know now so, petty things could've been set aside for the sake of the kids.

I understand where your coming from. I too have grown up without a father. I thought some other guy was my father until the sixth grade, it was tramatic. I always felt empty not having my other half. I felt lost, confused, lied to, and a fool. I didnt know who the other half of me was. But it made me grow. I found myself on my own. Its hard but you cant think of the things you could or should have but what you do have, or it spoils everything completely. I live by some of these qoutes; “Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.",Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.” “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

When i researched this case a bit and heard many sides of the story, i have a few scenarios as to who killed David. Whats sketchy to me is the person running him off the road and murdering him with 'no motive' or was there. No one carries a gun without a motive or run people of the road.. What i concluded, is someone knew he was going to the boy scout trip that night.. It was a planned event. But why would someone plan out his murder? Well im not saying this is a fact, its just its a scenario, so dont get offended. Like you know, Your mother and mine didnt like eachother, well my mom actually didnt have a problem, your mom was just jealous. I believe your mom loved David very much but i dont think David loved her nearly as much. If you would call it love or just revenge. On davids will, he put my three brothers and my mother to have all the money. Noone else. Why is that? Your mother didnt want you to see David, not the other way around. Your mom wasnt to upset about it till she saw how much support and money my family recieved. She was extremely jealous. My mom honestly didnt kick you out of his funeral, she doesnt even have the power to do that. Your mom obviously didnt put up a fight, if that did supposidely happen. Maybe that guy who murdered him was paid to kill him over a jealousy issue? Maybe you should question your mother a little bit more or something? And the other scenario is it was about a drug deal. Ive heard rumors that he was on drugss. So it couldve been about money and drugs. But i dont think thats true. Or it couldve been some crazy guy who killed him for no reason. Who knows.. Just thinking of the possibilities. Like some people said my mom killed him... uhhh that makes sense.

Im sorry for everything that has happened, its a huge ball of mess. But your not the only one in pain who lost a father.. My family has gotten through it and so can you.Youre putting all your efforts into this. Try to let it go.. Im not telling you to forget about your dad just to let the whole case go and everything that happened like are mothers, the money, the lying, the reason fo his death etc. Just forget about the murder completely. You shouldnt be jealous either. My family let the murder go but theyre still missing him. Were not a perfect family if thats what your thinking. Its far far from it. But im just saying you can get through it if you just accept what happened. I wish you all the luck, health, and wealth. We are all gonna be dead one day, dont make the time you have to live like death already. Live!! And remember no dwelling.

While it isn't unusual by any means to go out and grab some donuts, isn't it a bit strange that David left the house at 1:30am? I have times when I am so wound up I don't want to sleep either but if he was going on a camping trip the next day wouldn't he need SOME sleep?

I am speculating here and I know David's daughter has posted on here and such but is there the possibility that he was involved in some shady dealings? On the surface he could have been a good man, and maybe he was inside and out but we have seen seemingly good men do bad deeds behind closed doors. Could he have been involved in a drug deal and just didn't want to bring that to the forefront which caused him to come up with the stor?

Was there proof that David's car was damaged, even a nic? The story is a little vague. A very common car of the suspect's is described and all David says is that it's a "black man." Again, it COULD have been just a random black man but if you are making a story up would it not be pretty standard to claim a black man is behind it? Doesn't that kind of take the high road?

Also the investigator felt he was unusually calm during the interview after just being shot. And why come all the way home? You've been shot, get to a payphone/gas station and call 911. Why come home?

Not to upset anyone here, but here is what I think happened to David. Other than the theories of the case being a random killing or David being involved in shady business, I think he might have been going through a mid-life crisis or something. It's possible that he told his wife he was leaving to get donuts and take some kids on a camping trip but instead went to meet with a mistress. I find it odd that you'd start a camping trip so early in the morning like 1 am or 2 am. I think on his way back from meeting with a mistress, the husband, boyfriend or some family member of the mistress found David and hit his van and David thinking it was an accident stepped out and intended on exchanging insurance information like the show said. We all know what happened next. This is just a thought, it may or may not be true. Even if it were true, David certaintly did not deserve this. I do hope with all my heart that the real truth is discovered someday and the guy responsible is locked away in prison.

I don't think it's that unlikely that he went out that early to get the donuts. Maybe the trip was leaving at 3 or 4 in the morning? Maybe David couldn't sleep? Who knows? If David was shot repeatedly by someone he knew or knew of, don't you think he would have spilled the beans so that person could be caught? Seems unlikely that after being shot repeatedly he'd continue to hold on to the "lies" about his "affair"? I just don't buy it. I think this was a case of David being at the wrong place, at the wrong time. The guy was probably on some sort of drug (PCP, meth) which is why he reacted so violently. I just hope the killer is dead or in prison, and I hope there is closure to this case someday.

This was definitely an interesting, an unexpected read. I never imagined this thread developing the way it did.

Too bad the family members are long gone now ... they made things interesting.

I reread the 2003 article and I didn't realize police had a suspect! How is there not "enough evidence for an arrest"? Couldn't they just determine if this guy ever had access to or owned the vehicle described by Hurley? Wouldn't that and the description given by David be enough?

That and a gun with bullets similar or exact as the ones that killed David Hurley.

I've never really felt that any of the family members knew anything about the murder or planned it. What I think happened was similar to how the dramatization showed on um most likely. A car accident that got out of hand seems plausible. It's easy to think David may have been in on a drug deal gone bad but from what I've seen there is no reason to think that. David seemed like a normal decent guy that was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Does the case have a few weird aspects to it? Sure, but the main thing we do know is there is a murderer still out there that needs to be caught.

This is the craziest thread ever lol. WOW

Anyway, I always felt bad about this case because the poor guy went to get donuts and got shot by some random guy. And this whole case strikes me as a random killing.

Concerning police not having enough evidence, who knows? They might just have rumors in the area and circumstantial evidence but nothing to establish presence. It could be anything.

EDIT: I watched the conclusion and looked at a map of Route 22. No idea why cops think he was local. If he was, he would have been found by now with a gold prelude car and that he's black. I get the impression the killer was some crackhead possibly making a run across state lines. Route 22 spans several states. It was a minor accident, and the guy chimped on David Hurley, killing him in cold blood and driving off. Drug runners tend to have such a low value for human life.

But I will add too that it is my firm belief that people who do things like that or are impulsive express it many times over the course of their lives, and he's almost certainly in prison now as UM has shown over the years.

I saw this segment again this morning. I didn't realize there was a known suspect. It always seems like there is more to every story behind the scene. But don't you think if there was a drug or premeditated murder angle thay UM or the detectives later would have mentioned it? It seems like it would have come out easier if he were murdered over drugs or was a contract killing. Random acts of violence especially road rage are hard to solve. Most likely it was a criminal that didn't want to go to jail and he made a stupid decision.
