Sure a series 7 is worth more then a series 3, costs more to manufacture, overall costs are higher, it's a better product, so the retail price makes it a premium item. Disks cost the same what's ever on them. Ten disks cost the same as another ten disks, no series 7 or series 3. So the question arises, since trader A has two sets that trader B doesn't have, how is one premium and one is standard. Does someone research it to determine if it was in syndication, how many lists it's on, how old it is etc. We all know that once it's traded or sold once, within two weeks it's on everyone's list who wants it.

So if today someone comes up with series ABC and DCF, how do you determine which is premium and which isn't. I personally thought if few have it, it is at least rare and not common, don't know if premium is the word to use.

Default Premium

I think I can answer the premium question for once and for all.

Two expressions come to mind.
1. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
2. One man's meat is another man's poison

In retailing certain phrases are used to drive up prices. A handbag is worth more if it is listed as imported from Italy rather then Hackensack N.J., even if it is identical in nature. Perfume if given a French name can warrant a higher price, same goes for wines, though the California wine may be just as good.

Looking at the two sayings one can see where premium is just one man's opnion. Of course phrases like rare, hard to find and premium will appear to make the set more exclusive and allow the seller to sell his disks for a higher price, even if it's just the seller's opinion. What can get to a person is when it is implied that my stuff is premium and yours is so so.

You're not going to get any argument from me on this. And any underlying nuances are being purposely overlooked/ignored.

Default well

The premium thing comes up all the time

a lot of people think certian items are worth more.
Mostly if they have to pay for them-

But people with retail dubs, people with columbia house tapes

I disagree with it-
I think rare is something different to everyone.
But, the fact is- anyone can charge what they want for anything.
But until people stop buying it....

As my grandma would say

A man can charge whatever he wants for something- telling people what he THINKS it is worth.
But in fact it is only worth, what people will pay for it.

I'm still working on the idea that harvey is my soulmate.

I don't think he's ever seen a picture of me in shorts
or he wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it :-)

We know harvey loves the booty.

Should I be having the champagne cooling for you harveypoo?

100% incorrect again

but i guess since you dont build sets, or even try to, you really wouldnt understand why this statement is as wrong as 2 + 3 = 9

some things take a lot of effort, time, work, money, other items to get completed, or even close to it

thats what makes them better than other things

i have aprox 11000 discs on my current list, and about 300 are on the premium list

the very best of the very best---

and what do i ask for them, items that are of similar value in return

no im not giving my best stuff for some crap everyone else has, that would be just plain stuppppid

i see about as many trade lists as anyone in the dvd world, i see whats avaible and whats missing

harvey, how many times have you talked about a certain set , and i say--oh thats from so and so.....

i do my homework, and i have a pretty fair grasp on whats premium and whats common

i also submit that i offer the great stuff up for trade to one and all--- most people who have some top shelf items, WILL NOT TRADE THEM-----

even top notch traders, and well known ones have items on their lists that --are not for trade---

if you want to start a crusade, go knock on their cage and ask why??

all i ask is for a fair vauled item in return

I don't mind you having a different opinion then me, and that's part of life but why must you begin your posts with the same your 100 percent incorrect. The last I saw you weren't annointed by anyone, not made a God, so please just say you differ and that's it, don't decide what's correct or not, just give your opinion. Your opinion doesn't become a fact even though you do your best to portray it that way. The problem with your logic as I see it is you decide what's fair trade value, the other party has no say in the matter. As far as you knowing where I got some of the items I picked up is pure crap. You asked me and two of them will not trade with you as you readily know.

no cant do that

since your 100% incorrect and besides that dont have the experience to have an informed opinion in this mattre

but you felt the need to snipe at me and make remarks about premium this and that

as i stated previously

if you have something to say about me

by all means start a new thread and let it rip

you ran your pie hole about premium list

you ran your pie hole aboit a replacement disc

two instances you have no facts as to whats going on

yet decideed to take shots

time for opinions are far past

its time now to make a case, or show everyone that all you got is snipes and not much else today

lamont may be an easy target with the dumb references, im a little less of a pansy, i dont roll over when someone runs their pie hole

now if you would like to discuss the virtues of a premium value list, then how about you start a thread and state your belief, ill follow with mine, nice and civil

the problem i have is your cheap shots and snipes, homey dont play that

now do you got something to say, or do all you have are some cheap shots and snipes????

you know, i hear from non traders who think that the trading post is the most arguementative part of the board--- and YES i suppose it is

BUT get real, how much arguing can go on over at THE JEFFERSONS Page???

Lionel was a HUNK--- NO HE WAS GOOFY--- GO TO HELL he was a hunk!!!!

or how much arguing can go on at the BEWITCHED board???

Dick York was the best Darrin! NO WAY, DICK SARGEANT WAS BETTER!!! ILL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF YORK WAS THE BEST!!!!!

most of the boards do not lend themselves to disputes

BUT the trading post is different, you get scammers, you get bad traders, you get nutjobs, you get good traders who have bad traders, you get all sorts of minor issues that pop up sometimes

its not that big of a deal for anyone who is a regular here or a trader--- but sometimes non traders make it into more than it is

We only take cheap shots cause none of us can afford the expensive shots.

Didn't we just go through this "argumentative board. blah blah blah "
stuff not too long ago? Yeah, that would have been 2 days ago.

Can we go back to the picnic? I'm thinking of a huge bus. We call it
the Disc express. We get Taiyo Yuden, Supermediastore and some other
places (not staples thank you) to sponser it. And we'll preach to the masses
about the greatness that is trading discs.

Anyone got a CDL?
