Default James "Whitey" Bulger CAPTURED!

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...-campaign.html

James "Whitey" Bulger's capture came the same week the FBI launched an aggressive new pursuit of the 81-year-old fugitive and legendary Boston crime boss.
The campaign focused on finding Bulger's longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig, and included television commercials in 14 major cities where there had been reported sightings of the couple.
The push marked the latest in numerous efforts by authorities to track Bulger since he went on the run more than a decade ago.
FBI officials said the public service announcements were directed at women who might recognize Greig, 60. They also doubled the reward being offered for her capture from $50,000 to $100,000.
In 2008, the FBI doubled the reward offered for Bulger's capture from $1 million to $2 million. At the time a video announcement of the increased reward called him "a predator in every sense of the word."
Late Wednesday all images of Bulger on his "Most Wanted" poster were marked "captured" on the FBI's website.
Bulger, the FBI wrote, was sought for "his role in numerous murders committed from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s in connection with his leadership of an organized crime group that allegedly controlled extortion, drug deals, and other illegal activities in the Boston, Massachusetts, area."
The FBI also cautioned that Bulger "has a violent temper and is known to carry a knife at all times."

And its already been updated on fbi.gov

I'm not familiar with this one: so does this mean there's another solved UM case now?

Yes, because it was featured on UM. The UM segment originally aired on November 22, 1996.

2011 seems to be the year of solving "unsolvable" UM segments. Glad to see this POS apprehended finally.

Even though he was featured on UM, Whitey Bulger has such an extensive criminal history that he didn't need UM to garner tons of notoreity. Anyway, it's great that he was captured before he passed away in order to provide his victims with closure. If he had died while still on the run, who knows if his body would have been found and properly IDed and his fate may have remained unsolved forever. Given the large number of captured of UM fugitives lately, I can't help but think that Robert Stack is looking down upon us and driving home the message that no matter how old you are and how long you've been on the run, you will NOT get away with your crimes!

We should almost do an UM pool about which mystery is going to be solved next...

This one was a long time coming, seemed like he was on the run forever. He had a heck of a run and was free until the age of 81.

Also even though his name wasn't mentioned in the segment, it was later revealed that Bulger's associates were responsible for the murders of Roger Wheeler Sr., Brian Halloran and John Callahan all profiled during the first UM Special on January 20, 1987.

This is awesome! I always wondered if they'd ever find him. I just saw this myself and logged in here to see if anyone else had found out. I figured this guy would have been dead by now...guess not.

Great news! Not only was he featured on UM he was also thought to be involved in ordering the hit on one of the very first segments ever to air on UM...Roger Wheeler.

Thumbs up

Great news! I'm listening now to Howie Carr, New England's radio guy who I think has been chasing Whitey as much as the FBI. Joking of course, but his books on Whitey and Boston's mafia in general were great. It's a great day for Howie, but more of course, for the families of Whitey's many victims. He was one vicious killer.

I'm not shocked, but I am surprised. I figured he would die on the lam. IIRC, he served time in Alcatraz and Leavenworth, did he not?
