[/QUOTE Recently however, crystaldawn wrote an insightful blog entry that touched on the Poe case and provided some details that I wasn't aware of, which caused me to rethink the issue altogether.[/QUOTE]

Care to share which one of her awesome blog posts made u do this rethinking?

It was her entry entitled Mark Riebe: Sins of the Father. I don't want to ruin the article for those who haven't read it yet, but CD was able to dig up some information specifically relating to the "Megadeth Man" aspect of the Poe case that was quite illuminating IMO. For anyone who hasn't read CD's blog yet, I'd highly recommend it!

I don't understand why UM was picky with certain cases.

I was listening to a podcast about the disappearance of a high school student in 1987 and the rumor mill around the town was that he was killed by a group of Satanists. Granted, satanic panic was BS, but at the time it would have been a perfect segment for early UM. The student's parents were interviewed on the podcast and said that UM sent a producer to town who interviewed them for several hours, but when the producer talked to law enforcement, they backed off and said the segment wasn't worth making.

There were also some missing persons cases turned down by the producers (I believe one of them was Roger Ellison, but I may be remembering incorrectly). In any case, I think these would have been much better additions than, for example, the dream walker segment or fertility statues.

My Unpopular opinion: That lady (can't remember her name, and am too lay to look) whose son was found naked in her car trunk and kept saying "my baby" during her interview, killed her kid. Likely was an accident.

Dimitric Moore. I don't hold a strong opinion on who was responsible for his death, but the reality is that some parents get into a rage over such common occurrences as dirty clothing or the child arriving home late and murder the child. I do believe that an adult placed him in the trunk.

I completely believe all of the witnesses on the Queen Mary, even though I went there myself and didn't see a damn thing

I don't know how unpopular this is, but I think the letter detailed in the Nyleen Kay Marshall segment is entirely made up and the work of a crackpot with no connection to the case at all.

The main problem with the letter is that we have only seen excerpts of it and not the letter in full. Because apparently the letter included details about Nyleen's disappearance that had never been released to the public; one detective described him as being "privy to things that a normal random person would not have access to.

Slightly OT, but I didn't know about Nyleen's mom, Nancy, and how she died a horrible, bizarre death in Mexico. Makes you wonder if they just had some seriously bad luck or if there are issues in that family.

I'd be curious to see the letters in full detail. I tend to agree with Meg but if there are details of the abduction that weren't public, that takes this a whole new direction.

Despite being guilty as sin, I don't have this burning hatred for Mark Nichols that I do for other guilty spouses. A part of it might be his demeanor in his interview. He was lying through his teeth, but he wasn't arrogant about it like Stephen Marfeo or Jule Caylor.

Completely agree. I’ve always had the opinion that she was killed the night she vanished and that the letter was the handiwork of some “el sicko” trying to troll the family and law enforcement.
