According to Deadline:

Quote:
NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke was quick to jump in and note that a renewal for Parks & Recreation does not impact a pickup decision on Community, which NBC brass also like but will evaluate their comedy plans for next season before making a decision.
So, does this mean Community will actually be cancelled after its Season 5? 'Cause I was leading toward an abbreviated sixth (and final) season.

Hate to double-post, but I had this thought: If NBC got the NFL Thursday Night Package next season, will they have to find a new night for a 2-hour comedy block next season? Or a one-hour comedy block on two nights each? If so, which night should it be?

NBC is the network that would benefit most if it got the Thursday games. They would go from having abysmal Thursday ratings to easily winning every week in the fall with 2 football games and 3 hours of The Voice. The comedies shouldn't be a priority, especially on Thursdays. Cutting back to 1 hour of comedies might be best as their dramas do better.

Greenblatt says it has a "strong possibility" of being renewed. My guess is it's coming back unless it starts to really tank.

I don't agree - NBC already has Sunday football, throwing 2 nights away to football would look desperate and would leave them with only ~8 hours of scripted programming. ABC would probably benefit the most - they could use more eyeballs watching their network and promoting their shows, and they could move Grey's and Scandal to nights where they could potentially help out the stragglers.

Would NBC rather have their current Thursday lineup that is all under a 1.5 or a 2nd football game that would easily win them every week? seems like a no-brainer to me...

And what are they going to do when football ends in January? It's a short-term fix but it wouldn't provide any long-term support.

NBC has a night of football, let another network take a swing.

Now that Sean Saves the World has been fired, what do you think will fill its timeslot on Thursday after the Sochi Winter Olympics?

NBC will probably just fill in the 9 PM hour with filler - SNL specials, ect. Putting anything new there would just be a waste. Maybe they'll try Community/Parks in that hour.

Greenblatt said that both Parks and Community were a "strong possibility" to be renewed, and then pretty much announced Parks' renewal at the Q&A.

I wouldn't take it as bad news for Community. I imagine Salke was just worried about being misinterpreted by the press who are rather defensive about Community because she has got into trouble with the press before.

I agree with you that it doesn't solve NBC's problems, but the Thursday Night Football deal is only for 6-8 games. It would just push launching their Thursday schedule to late October.

They have no good options. It's a choice between burning off Michael J. Fox and airing filler, doing a major, risky, reshuffle of their schedule or just slotting Undateable in Sean's old slot.

Personally, I'd go for airing hour-long filler. They have unaired episodes of Hollywood Game Night and they can follow them up with Dateline.

Supposedly Undateable and medical drama The Night Shift are both a mess, plus it's a rather brutal slot to premiere a new show in.

It's also that, unlike Parks, NBC doesn't produce Community (Sony does) so they can't actually say anything about a renewal without negotiating with them first.

The Emmys will air on a Monday this year for the first time since 1976.

So I would think, at the end of the season, the only comedies surviving to next season at NBC are Parks and Recreation and Community, again> So when P&R and Community end their original runs, NBC will never have a successful or long-running comedy series again. Any comedy series that NBC tries to launch will end up getting low ratings and cancelled after one season.

Also, About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher: Will they get sufficient ratings or end up flopping as well? I probably don't think Undateable will get a renewal, either.

I already know that NBC's primetime programming has to take a two-week break during the Olympics, but, since I heard that NBC will provide some coverage of the 2014 Paralympic Games along with NBCSN from 7 to 16 March, will NBC's primetime programming be pre-empted for any Paralympics coverage?
